The impact of a drug allergy label in an internal medicine ward
Conclusions. In this study, a considerable number of patients had a drug allergy label on their records. This label contributed to an increase in the cost of treatment, or the avoidance of necessary exams. However, disregarding an allergy record may lead to potentially life-threatening reactions that proper risk assessment could avoid. Further investigation should always be part of the follow-up routine of these patients, and better articulation between departments should be encouraged.PMID:36975723 | DOI:10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.293

Cross-reactivity of a new food ingredient, dun pea, with legumes, and risk of anaphylaxis in legume allergic children.
CONCLUSIONS: This study identifies, for the first time, a risk of dun pea allergy in legume-allergic patients and in a subset of peanut-allergic patients. PMID: 26159477 [PubMed - in process]

Italian Multicenter Cross-Sectional Study (AISAG) on light smoking and allergic diseases in adults.
Authors: Lombardi C, Passalacqua G, A A I T O Italian Smoke and Allergy Group AISAG Abstract Allergic rhinitis, allergic dermatitis, and food allergy are extremely common diseases and are frequently associated to each other and to asthma. Smoking is a potential risk factor for these conditions, but so far, results from individual studies have been conflicting. On the basis of these contradictory data in the literature we have carried out a multicenter cross-sectional study to evaluate the relationship between some allergic conditions and exposure or not to active light smoking. The study was carried out between May...

A regional approach to unmet needs in anaphylaxis.
Authors: Minale P, Bignardi D, Troise C, Voltolini S, Dignetti P Abstract Allergic diseases are under-diagnosed and undertreated despite their wide prevalence, and particularly anaphylaxis is often under-estimated. Evidence-based anaphylaxis guidelines developed by principal allergy organizations agree on increased prevalence of anaphylaxis, especially in patients younger than 18 years (18-27,30): this trend highlights the need for actions on anaphylaxis management and prevention (3,4). Lack of prompt connection between emergency department and allergy unit after discharge, and of a dedicated ICD-9th identification...

Allergy to lipid transfer proteins (LTP) in a pediatric population
Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol. 2021 Jul 23. doi: 10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.229. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLipid transfer proteins (LTP) are considered important plant-food allergens in the Mediterranean area, but little is known about LTP allergy in pediatric age. Our aim was to characterize LTP allergy in children. We reviewed the clinical data from all children evaluated in our department with LTP allergy. From the 76 patients with LTP allergy, 26 children were included, 50% female, median age 10 years (1-17). Symptoms included urticaria in 58% (n = 15), 168 anaphylaxes in 46% (n = 12) and OAS in 42% (n = 11). Multi...

An oral challenge test with carmine red (E120) in skin prick test positive patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Oral challenge test provides a valuable in vivo tool to better inform patients with positive skin prick tests to additives to avoid false allergy diets. PMID: 26549338 [PubMed - in process]

Vitamin D levels and allergic diseases. An italian cross-sectional multicenter survey.
Conclusion. Our data, derived from a cross-sectional study involving only allergic patients, agree partially with the current literature. Nonetheless, the association between VD levels and allergies appeared weak. Studies involving larger samples would be required to better define the association between VD and allergies. Factors effecting natural course of egg allergy
Conclusions. Higher levels of egg sIgE, skin prick test induration and anaphylaxis at onset or during oral food challenge, can give hint about persistence of egg allergy.PMID:36891735 | DOI:10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.286
