Shrimp allergy beyond Tropomyosin in Italy: clinical relevance of Arginine Kinase, Sarcoplasmic calcium binding protein and Hemocyanin.
CONCLUSION: Shrimp arginine kinase and sarcoplasmic calcium-binding protein are minor allergens sensitizing only 10%-15% of Italian shrimp-allergic patients, but are clinically relevant. Hemocyanin is a clinically relevant high molecular weight shrimp allergen possibly cross-reacting to house dust mite. PMID: 25224947 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Body Mass Index and skin reactivity to histamine and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus in children and adolescents followed in a pediatric allergy service.
Conclusions. We did not document interference of nutritional status (ZBMI) on the skin reactivity to histamine or Dermatophagoiodes pteronyssinus in atopic patients. Further investigation is required. PMID: 28497673 [PubMed - in process]

Red meat allergy induced by tick bites: A Norwegian case report.
Authors: Arslan Lied G Abstract Summary: Food allergies, especially delayed hypersensitivity reactions, are often challenging for both patients and clinicians. Here, we report the case of a 64-year-old man who had allergic reactions six hours after eating a meal containing red meat. He reported that he had several tick bites in months before the reaction. High serum specific IgE levels of alpha-gal confirmed the diagnosis of alpha-gal allergic reaction with delayed onset after red meat ingestion caused by tick bite. Prevalence, molecular characterization, and clinical relevance of sensitization to Anisakis simplex in children with sensitization and/or allergy to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus.
Authors: Verga MC, Pastorino R, Casani A, Inturrisi F, de Waure C, Pugliese A, Dello Iacono I Abstract Summary: Prevalence of the Anisakis Simplex's (AS) sensitization in children sensitized to Dermatophagoides pteronissynus (DP) is not known, neither it is to which percentage it might be due to cross-reactivity. The primary objective of the present retrospective cross-sectional study is to evaluate the prevalence of sensitization to AS in children sensitized or allergic to DP. Secondary outcomes were the prevalence of cross-reactivity and clinical relevance of the condition. The prevalence of sensitization to AS d...

Bodybuilding protein supplements and cow's milk allergy in adult.
We report a case of a previously healthy 24-year-old man with a 3-month history of gastrointestinal symptoms during exercise and also few minutes after the ingestion of cow's milk (CM) without exercise. He reported the ingestion of a blend of hydrolyzed whey and casein proteins for bodybuilding for the last 2 years. The in vivo tests showed positivity to CM, α-lactalbumin, β-lactoglobulin and casein extracts, and also to the protein supplement. The serum specific IgE was positive for CM, β-lactoglobulin and α-lactalbumin. The in vivo and in vitro tests results suggested an IgE-mediated CMA. Adult-onset CMA has been rar...

Dog allergy: can a prevalent or exclusive sensitization to Can f 5 be considered a lucky or negative event in real life?
Authors: Liccardi G, Calzetta L, Salzillo A, Apicella G, Piccolo A, Di Maro E, Rogliani P Abstract Summary: Recent studies have shown the increasing relevance of allergic sensitization to Can f 5 (a prostatic kallikrein), which is an androgen-regulated protein expressed in the prostate and detectable only in male dogs. Can f 5 can be a prevalent or exclusive sensitizing agent in a considerable percentage of dog-allergic patients. Its specific allergenic characteristics are able to induce possible negative as well as positive clinical effects in individuals sensitized to dogs. In the present article we pointed out t...

Cross-elicitation responses to 2-methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine in p-phenylenediamine highly allergic volunteers using allergy alert test: the Italian experience.
Conclusion: Most SR during UR were mild with no need for adrenaline treatment. The honey bee venom and the severity of the anaphylaxis during the field sting were the only SR´s risk factors for systemic adverse reactions during the UR. PMID: 30702236 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
