Crosstalk between Placental Trophoblast and Decidual Immune Cells in Recurrent Miscarriage
Int J Med Sci. 2023 Jul 31;20(9):1174-1188. doi: 10.7150/ijms.86533. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTRecurrent miscarriage (RM) is a pregnancy complication associated with dysregulation of the maternal-fetal interface. We aimed to identify dysfunctional interactions between trophoblast cells and decidual immune cells in RM. We downloaded single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets (GSE214607) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets for further analysis using the R software. The data comprised of paired placental and decidual tissues, including those from patients diagnosed with RM and matched healthy controls. A total...

Omicron variant of SARS-COV-2 in Shanghai: Clinical features and inactivated vaccine efficacy in 13,120 elderly patients
Conclusion: For mild patients with Omicron infection, patients aged>60 years had mild clinical symptoms, higher viral loads, and longer time of nucleic acid conversion, when compared with younger patients. The inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine provided effective protection among adults with omicron variant infection, and the effectiveness of three doses of the vaccine was greater than that of two doses of the vaccine. Special attention should be given to elderly patients.PMID:37575277 | PMC:PMC10416717 | DOI:10.7150/ijms.84452

Potential Galactagogue Effect of Tri-Than-Thip Remedy on Milk Synthesis in Lactating Rats: Impact on Milk Production-Related Parameters
Int J Med Sci. 2023 Jul 24;20(9):1135-1143. doi: 10.7150/ijms.83869. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTHerbal galactagogues have been widely used as a treatment for postpartum hypogalactia due to the potential side effects associated with pharmacological therapy. Tri-Than-Thip (Tri-TT) is a Thai herbal medicine remedy that contains three main components: Cassia fistula, Pithecellobium dulce, and Ficus benjamina. These components are believed to have properties that contribute to milk production. However, despite the traditional use of Tri-TT, there is a lack of academic evidence supporting its efficacy in enhancing milk production....

Prognostic and Clinical Implications of UNC13C expression in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients
Int J Med Sci. 2023 Aug 6;20(9):1235-1239. doi: 10.7150/ijms.80488. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAberrant expression of UNC13C (Unc-13 Homolog C) has been observed during the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma. However, the expression pattern and clinical relevance of UNC13C in Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain to be elucidated. The purpose of this study is to examine UNC13C expression in HCC and explore its role in clinicopathological factor or prognosis in HCC. Two hundred and sixty-five patients diagnosed with HCC were included in the present study. The expression of UNC13C in HCC tissues was analyzed by immuno...

Osteopontin May Improve Postinjury Muscle Repair Via Matrix Metalloproteinases And tgf- β Activation in Regular Exercise
Int J Med Sci. 2023 Aug 6;20(9):1202-1211. doi: 10.7150/ijms.82925. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTSkeletal muscle injuries are commonly observed during sports and trauma. Regular exercise promotes muscle repair; however, the underlying mechanisms require further investigation. In addition to exercise, osteopontin (OPN) contributes to skeletal muscle regeneration and fibrosis following injury. However, whether and how OPN affects matrix proteins to promote post-injury muscle repair remains uncertain. We recruited regular exercise (RE) and sedentary control (SC) groups to determine plasma OPN levels. Additionally, we developed a ...
