Identification of gene polymorphisms associated with fat mass by genome-wide association study in Chinese people
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the RASAL1 gene and the PALLD gene might contribute to variability of trunk FM in healthy Chinese Han people. The PTPRS gene is potentially correlated with leg FM. Our findings provide a clue in fat metabolism.PMID:37732072 | PMC:PMC10507778 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/170851

Flow cytometric characterization of cell surface markers to differentiate between fibroblasts and mesenchymal stem cells of different origin
CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study indicate that cell surface markers may prove to be a useful tool in the discrimination between MSCs of different origins and fibroblasts, and thus may be used to authenticate the identity of the isolated cells.PMID:37732070 | PMC:PMC10507789 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/131088

The diagnostic value of circulating miR-532-5p in patients with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis and its predictive significance for the occurrence of cerebral ischaemic events
CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests the potential clinical value of miR-532-5p for the early diagnosis of asymptomatic CAS patients. MiR-532-5p might have predictive value for the risk of future CIE in asymptomatic CAS patients.PMID:37732069 | PMC:PMC10507762 | DOI:10.5114/aoms.2020.96627

A comparison of 7 commercial anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody immunoassays
CONCLUSIONS: The results obtained in this study provide evidence for high overall concordance between the comparative CLIA method and different LFIAs. This could justify the use of LFIAs in some settings, where automated assays are not available, provided that some limitations are considered.PMID:37732068 | PMC:PMC10507786 | DOI:10.5114/aoms.2020.98361

Polyunsaturated fatty acid status and risk of type 1 diabetes in infants and children: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The meta-analysis suggests that n-3 PUFA might play a potential protective role in the cause of preclinical T1D, and n-3 PUFA intake may be beneficial, since the n-3 PUFA status was associated with a significant decrease in the risk of preclinical T1D in children. Nevertheless, more well-designed prospective studies are necessary to determine whether dietary or supplemental intake of specific n-3 PUFA alters the risk of preclinical T1D.PMID:37732067 | PMC:PMC10507780 | DOI:10.5114/aoms.2020.101299

A study of the proteomic expression in patients with complicated parapneumonic pleural effusion
CONCLUSIONS: In pleural effusion in patients with CPPE, there are enhanced expressions of proteins concerning glucose and amino acid metabolism, NADH regeneration, and HIF-1 signalling pathways together with decreased expressions of proteins concerning protein polymerization, blood coagulation, platelet activation, and complement activation.PMID:37732066 | PMC:PMC10507766 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/132885

The association between frailty and osteoarthritis based on the NHANES and Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: There is both a correlation and a causal relationship between frailty and osteoarthritis, and frailty may be a potentially better response than age to osteoarthritis.PMID:37732065 | PMC:PMC10507783 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/171270

The prevalence, disability-adjusted life years, and mortality of hypertensive heart disease and its attributable risk factors: results from the Global Burden Disease study 2019
CONCLUSION: The worldwide prevalence rate standardized by age increased during 1990-2019, especially in Andean Latin America, North Africa, the Middle East, and Western Sub-Saharan Africa. Future HHD prevention tactics should be focused on males, high-risk areas, and control of high BMI.PMID:37732060 | PMC:PMC10507767 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/169477

Involvement of PI3K/Akt/ β-catenin signaling in schisandrin B-mitigated bone deterioration in an experimental rat model of estrogen deficiency
CONCLUSIONS: SchB exerted anti-osteoporotic activity in OVX-operated rats by accelerating the phosphorylation of PI3K and Akt, subsequently upregulating the expression of β-catenin.PMID:37732059 | PMC:PMC10507775 | DOI:10.5114/aoms.2020.92873

Nanoparticles: a breakthrough in COVID-19 prevention, diagnosis and treatment
Arch Med Sci. 2021 Oct 15;19(5):1410-1420. doi: 10.5114/aoms/142103. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). The three key principles in management of the COVID-19 pandemic are prevention, early detection and targeted treatment. Vaccine-based prevention together with early detection has already proven its efficacy in controlling the pandemic. Early detection of infected patients could substantially accelerate the implementation of treatment,...
