Retracted IQGAP1 ‑siRNA inhibits proliferation and metastasis of U251 and U373 glioma cell lines
Mol Med Rep. 2023 Nov;28(5):207. doi: 10.3892/mmr.2023.13094. Epub 2023 Sep 21.ABSTRACTFollowing the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the GAPDH control western blotting data shown in Fig. 1C, and other western blotting data included in Figs. 2D and 7C and D, were strikingly similar to data appearing in different form in other articles written by different authors at different research institutes. Owing to the fact that the contentious data in the above article were already under consideration for publication, or had already been published elsewhere, prior to its s...

Lactobacillus-derived extracellular vesicles counteract A β42-induced abnormal transcriptional changes through the upregulation of MeCP2 and Sirt1 and improve Aβ pathology in Tg-APP/PS1 mice
In this study, we investigated whether Lactobacillus paracasei-derived extracellular vesicles (Lpc-EV) can directly act on neuronal cells to modify amyloid-beta (Aβ)-induced transcriptional changes and Aβ pathology in the brains of Tg-APP/PS1 mice. Lpc-EV treatment in HT22 neuronal cells counteracts Aβ-induced downregulation of Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (Bdnf), Neurotrophin 3 (Nt3), Nt4/5, and TrkB receptor, and reverses Aβ-induced altered expression of diverse nuclear factors, including the downregulation of Methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (Mecp2) and Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1). Systematic siRNA-mediated knockdown experim...

Rutaecarpine ameliorates osteoarthritis by inhibiting PI3K/AKT/NF ‑κB and MAPK signalling transduction through integrin αVβ3
Int J Mol Med. 2023 Oct;52(4):97. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2023.5300. Epub 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTOsteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic progressive articular illness which commonly affects older‑aged adults, presenting with cartilage inflammation and degradation. Rutaecarpine (RUT) has been shown to exert promising anti‑inflammatory effects; however, the efficacy of RUT in the treatment of OA is debatable. The present study investigated the potential of RUT in alleviating OA in a mouse model. Treatment with RUT inhibited the inflammatory response and extracellular matrix degradation by suppressing process regulators in interleukin (...

Fine particulate matter promotes airway inflammation and mucin production by activating endoplasmic reticulum stress and the IRE1 α/NOD1/NF‑κB pathway
Int J Mol Med. 2023 Oct;52(4):96. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2023.5299. Epub 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTFine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a type of small particle that is <2.5 µm in diameter that may cause airway inflammation. Thus, the present study aimed to explore the effects of PM2.5 on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and airway inflammation in human airway epithelial cells. For this purpose, HBE135‑E6E7 airway epithelial cells were cultured and exposed to specific concentrations of PM2.5 for various periods of time, and cell viability was determined using a Cell Counting Kit‑8 assay. The results of the present study demonst...

Elevated galectin-3 levels detected in women with hyperglycemia during early and mid-pregnancy antagonizes high glucose  - induced trophoblast cells apoptosis via galectin-3/foxc1 pathway
CONCLUSION: Future studies were required to validate whether plasma galectin-3 might become a potential biomarker for hyperglycemia during pregnancy. Elevated galectin-3 levels might be a vital protective mechanism among those exposed to hyperglycemia during pregnancy.PMID:37626284 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-023-00707-5

Environmental-relevant bisphenol A exposure promotes ovarian cancer stemness by regulating microRNA biogenesis
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Aug 23. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17920. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous environmental xenobiotic impacting millions of people worldwide. BPA has long been proposed to promote ovarian carcinogenesis, but the detrimental mechanistic target remains unclear. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are considered as the trigger of tumour initiation and progression. Here, we show for the first time that nanomolar (environmentally relevant) concentration of BPA can markedly increase the formation and expansion of ovarian CSCs concomitant. This effect is observed in both oestrogen receptor (ER)-posit...

Effect of the combination of cationic lipid and phospholipid on gene-knockdown using siRNA lipoplexes in breast tumor cells and mouse lungs
Mol Med Rep. 2023 Oct;28(4):180. doi: 10.3892/mmr.2023.13067. Epub 2023 Aug 18.ABSTRACTPreviously, using three types of cationic lipids, the effect of phospholipids in liposomal formulations on gene-knockdown efficacy was determined after in vitro and in vivo transfection with small interfering RNA (siRNA)/cationic liposome complexes (siRNA lipoplexes) containing various cationic lipids and phospholipids. In the present study, six other types of cationic lipids, namely N,N-dimethyl-N-tetradecyltetradecan-1-aminium bromide, N-hexadecyl-N,N-dimethylhexadecan-1-aminium bromide (DC-1-16), 2-[bis{2-(tetradecanoyloxy)ethyl}amino...

A pancancer analysis of the oncogenic role of ZNRF2 in human tumours
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Aug 8. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17900. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFinding effective treatments for cancer requires a thorough understanding of how it develops and progresses. Recent research has revealed the crucial role that Zinc and ring finger 2 (ZNRF2) play in the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by controlling cell growth and death. However, a comprehensive analysis of ZNRF2's role in cancer as a whole has yet to be conducted. Our study sought to investigate the impact of ZNRF2 on diverse human tumours, as well as the molecular pathways involved, using databases such as TCGA (The Canc...

Suppression of PGE2/EP2 signaling alleviates Hirschsprung disease by upregulating p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase activity
In this study, an Ednrb-deficient mouse model of HSCR was generated and used to investigate if PGE2/EP2 pathway could be a potential therapeutic target for HSCR. We found that downregulation of PGE2/EP2 signaling by siRNA-mediated ablation of a PGE2 synthase or pharmacologic blockage of EP2 enhanced ENCC colonization in the distal bowel of Ednrb-/- mice and alleviated their HSCR-like symptoms. Furthermore, blockage of EP2 was shown to promote ENCC migration through upregulating p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase activity, which was downregulated in the colon of Ednrb-/- mice and in the distal aganglionic bowel of HSCR pa...
