Fighting HIV through a better delivery method of anti-retrovirals
(Boston University School of Medicine) Rahm Gummuluru, PhD, associate professor of microbiology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), and Bjoern Reinhard, PhD, professor of chemistry at Boston University, have been awarded a Research Project Grant (R01) from the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases/National Institute of Health. The R01 is the original and historically oldest grant mechanism used to provide support for health-related research and development based on the mission of the National Institutes of Health.

BUSM researcher receives $1.6 million NIH grant for pneumonia research
(Boston University Medical Center) Joseph Mizgerd, Sc.D., professor of medicine, microbiology and biochemistry at Boston University School of Medicine, and director of the University's Pulmonary Center, recently was awarded $1.6 million from the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The four-year grant will be used to fund his project to better understand how immunity to pneumonia develops and how it protects certain individuals.

Reassuring findings for mothers who have influenza vaccine while pregnant
(University of California - San Diego) Researchers from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Boston University, in collaboration with the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, have found evidence of the H1N1 influenza vaccine's safety during pregnancy. The national study, which was launched shortly after the H1N1 influenza outbreak of 2009, is summarized in two companion papers published online on Sept. 19 in the journal Vaccine.
