Development and psychometric validation of the gum health experience questionnaire
CONCLUSIONS: The gum health experience questionnaire holds substantial promise as a measure of gum-related quality of life in people across the gum health-disease continuum. Further face validity, refining and reducing the number of items and longitudinal studies to test evaluative properties are required before the measure can be used with confidence.PMID:37735867 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13878

Evaluation of pharyngeal airway volume three-dimensionally in various sagittal skeletal patterns - Systematic review
This study was prepared according to the Cochrane criteria for creating a systematic review and meta-analysis and confirms the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. This search was conducted to answer the patient/population, intervention, comparison and outcomes (PICO) question: To evaluate (outcome) and compare (comparison) whether there is a difference in airway volume in patients (participants) with different skeletal malocclusions diagnosed using 3D data (intervention). The first two authors extracted the data from the included studies and assessed the risk of bias in the...

Electronic cigarettes: Ally or an enemy in combating tobacco-use-associated diseases - An integrative review
Conclusion: Although ECs are less harmful than TCs in combustible inhaled constituents, their long-term safety can still not be ascertained due to the scarcity of long-term studies and conflicting results.

Is dynamic computer-assisted surgery more accurate than the static method for dental implant placement? A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsA difference was found in the angular deviation of implants placed with the dynamic approach compared with the static system. The dynamic system was better, but this difference was not demonstrable in clinical studies. No significant difference was found in the apical and coronal deviations of the dynamic and static systems.

Supportive care and antiviral treatments in primary herpetic gingivostomatitis: a systematic review
ConclusionsAlthough PHGS is a disease with a high worldwide prevalence, the lack of consensus about therapeutic management indicates gaps in existing evidence. Most of the proposed treatment consists in symptomatic drugs with empiric regimens which are ineffective for the viral replication. The main limit to realize randomized clinical trial is due to the rapid onset and remission of the disease. In fact, the diagnostic delay, estimated in 72  h, decreases the effectiveness of any antiviral drugs.Clinical relevanceOut of the five studies included in this systematic review, only one was able to provide some weak evidence t...

Effect of music during endodontic treatment on patients ’ anxiety: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials
ConclusionsWith a very low quality of evidence, dental care professionals may consider playing background music during endodontic treatment since it is a cost-effective and easy alternative to trying to reduce dental anxiety.Clinical RelevanceFive studies were included in this systematic review and showed, with a very low quality of evidence, that music may reduce state anxiety levels on patients during root canal treatment.

Visceral adipose tissue increases the risk of periodontal disease: Results from the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and Mendelian randomization analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that there is a significant association between VAT and PD and that VAT could be a potential causal factor in PD risk. Our results also suggest that although there is a potential link between VAT levels and PD risk, the effect size is modest. Therefore, interventions designed to reduce VAT levels should not be considered a primary strategy for PD risk reduction but could be one of many strategies used in a comprehensive approach to PD risk management.PMID:37726246 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13876

A 30-year retrospective cohort outcome study of periodontal treatment of stages III and IV patients in a private practice
CONCLUSION: The majority of patients with stages III and IV periodontitis could be successfully treated with conventional periodontal treatment over a period of 30 years. The findings suggest that retrospective studies with shorter observation times cannot automatically be projected onto the outcome of a lifetime of periodontal treatment.PMID:37726161 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13877

Influence of sodium hypochlorite on cyclic fatigue resistance of nickel –titanium instruments: A systematic review and meta-analysis of in vitro studies
ConclusionNaOCl appears to reduce cyclic fatigue resistance of certain NiTi files, especially when they are pre-heated, particularly in conventional NiTi files compared to some heat-treated instruments. It is possible that the temperature of the solution may have a greater influence on resistance than NaOCl itself. Important to note that an overall tendency toward no significant influence was observed among various systems.Clinical relevancePrecautions are necessary when a pre-heated high-concentration NaOCl is used to enhance its properties during root canal preparation, mainly using conventional wire.

Development of a machine learning multiclass screening tool for periodontal health status based on non-clinical parameters and salivary biomarkers
CONCLUSIONS: Machine learning-based classifiers, such as RF analyses, are promising tools for multiclass assessment of periodontal health and disease in a non-clinical setting. Results need to be externally validated in appropriately sized independent samples (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03928080).PMID:37697491 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13856

CCL2 is a key regulator and therapeutic target for periodontitis
CONCLUSIONS: CCL2 is a pivotal chemokine that binds to CCR2 during the progression of periodontitis, and targeting CCL2 may be a feasible option for controlling periodontitis.PMID:37697486 | DOI:10.1111/jcpe.13872
