Lead toxicity in Lucilia cuprina and electrochemical analysis: a simple and low-cost alternative for forensic investigation
This study describes for the first time the toxicity analysis of Pb on immature L. cuprina through their survival rate and influence of Pb on immature development. In addition, the bioaccumulation of Pb in the larvae samples was determined based on square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) measurements. The results revealed a low limit of detection to Pb (6.5 μg L-1) and the analytical performance was satisfactory because it measures Pb levels in larvae exposed to a diet containing 50 μg Pb g-1. Furthermore, the levels of Pb influenced the survival rate and development time of the immature L. cuprina. Larvae expos...

An integrated approach to unravel a crucial structural property required for the function of the insect steroidogenic Halloween protein Noppera-bo Protein Structure and Folding
Ecdysteroids are the principal steroid hormones essential for insect development and physiology. In the last 18 years, several enzymes responsible for ecdysteroid biosynthesis encoded by Halloween genes were identified and genetically and biochemically characterized. However, the tertiary structures of these proteins have not yet been characterized. Here, we report the results of an integrated series of in silico, in vitro, and in vivo analyses of the Halloween GST protein Noppera-bo (Nobo). We determined crystal structures of Drosophila melanogaster Nobo (DmNobo) complexed with GSH and 17β-estradiol, a DmNobo inhibitor. ...

Development and validation of a new TD-GC/MS method and its applicability in the search for human and animal decomposition products.
This study describes the development and validation of a new analytical method that can be applied in the search of such (a) specific marker(s). Sampling of the volatile compounds released by decomposing animal and human remains was performed both in a laboratory environment and outdoors by adsorption on sorbent tubes. Different coatings and several sampling parameters were investigated. Next, the volatile compounds were analyzed and identified by a thermal desorber combined with gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (TD-GC/MS). Different GC columns were tested. Finally, the analytical method was validated using ...
