Association of Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke: Analysis of Maccabi Health Services Cardiovascular Database.
CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of the MHS vascular database yielded useful information on stroke prevalence and association of known risk factors with stroke, which is consistent with the epidemiological literature elsewhere. Further analysis of health fund data could potentially provide useful information in the future. PMID: 26394490 [PubMed - in process]

Worse Outcome in Patients with Acute Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation Following Thrombolysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests worse outcome in thrombolized patients with AF compared to non-AF stroke patients. Therefore, AF itself can be a poor prognostic factor for tPA sensitivity regarding the chance of revascularization and recovery after intravenous tPA. PMID: 28513116 [PubMed - in process]

Atrial Tachycardia in Patients with Cryptogenic Stroke: Is there a Need For Anticoagulation?
CONCLUSIONS: Atrial tachycardia as recorded on a Holter monitor was not more prevalent in patients presenting with ischemic stroke. The occurrence of atrial tachycardia is not an indication for systemic anticoagulation. PMID: 26757561 [PubMed - in process]

Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation Following Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Predicts Long-Term Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: POAF is a common complication of CABG surgery, which is correlated with late AF and stroke. Patients with POAF should be closely monitored to facilitate early administration of anticoagulant therapy in a high risk population upon recurrence of AF. PMID: 28457078 [PubMed - in process]

In-thrombus thrombin secretion: a new diagnostic marker of atrial fibrillation in cryptogenic stroke
Isr Med Assoc J. 2022 Dec 1;25(12):853-854.ABSTRACTEndovascularly retrieved clots may be a potential resource for diagnosing stroke etiology. This method may influence secondary prevention treatment. We measure thrombin activity eluted by serially washing clots. We concluded that an assay measuring the change in thrombin in clots retrieved during acute stroke endovascular thrombectomy procedures may serve as a diagnostic marker of the origin of the clot. The suggested mechanism for these differences may be the clot location before its retrieval, with high blood flow causing thrombin washout in atherosclerotic clots, in con...
