Predicting Major Bleeding in Ischemic Stroke Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Brief Report
Conclusions—Performance of prediction models for major bleeding in patients with cerebral ischemia and atrial fibrillation is modest but comparable with performance in patients with only atrial fibrillation. Bleeding risk scores cannot guide treatment decisions for oral anticoagulants but may still be useful to identify modifiable risk factors for bleeding. Clinical usefulness may be best for ORBIT, which is based on a limited number of easily obtainable variables and showed reasonable performance.

Trends in Risk Factor Prevalence and Management Before First Stroke: Data From the South London Stroke Register 1995-2011 Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Antiplatelet and cholesterol-lowering treatment prescribing have improved significantly over time; however, only a minority with AF received anticoagulants, and this did not improve significantly. Overall, 30% of strokes occurred in patients with previously diagnosed but untreated risk factors.

Functional Gain After Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation: Correlates and Impact on Long-Term Survival Brief Reports
Conclusions— Several factors are independently associated with functional gain after SR. Our findings strongly suggest that the magnitude of functional improvement is a powerful predictor of long-term mortality in patients admitted for SR.

Cost-Effectiveness of Oral Anticoagulants for Ischemic Stroke Prophylaxis Among Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— All the newer oral anticoagulants compared were more effective than adjusted dosed warfarin. Our model showed that apixaban was the most effective anticoagulant in a general atrial fibrillation population and has an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio <$50 000/QALY. For those with higher stroke risk (CHADS2≥3), dabigatran was the most cost-effective treatment option.

Atrial Fibrillation in Transient Ischemic Attack Versus Ischemic Stroke: A Swedish Stroke Register (Riksstroke) Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— AF is highly prevalent not only in IS but also in TIA patients, with proportions steeply increasing with age. In both TIA and IS, a substantial proportion of patients with AF were discharged without anticoagulant therapy.

Conclusions—No significant change in OAC prescribing occurred. Impact of Smoking on Clinical Outcome and Recanalization After Intravenous Thrombolysis for Stroke Clinical Sciences

Cost-Effectiveness of Apixaban, Dabigatran, Rivaroxaban, and Warfarin for Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and an increased risk of stroke prophylaxis, apixaban 5 mg, dabigatran 150 mg, and rivaroxaban 20 mg were all cost-effective alternatives to warfarin. The cost-effectiveness of novel oral anticoagulantss was dependent on therapy pricing in the United States and neurological events associated with rivaroxaban 20 mg.

Detection of Atrial Fibrillation After Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Detection of AF was highly variable, and the review was limited by small sample sizes and marked heterogeneity. Further studies are required to inform patient selection, optimal timing, methods, and duration of monitoring for detection of AF/paroxysmal AF.
