The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate protective effects of glucose–insulin–potassium (GIK) on outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We systematically searched Medline/Pubmed, Elsevier, Embase, Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar. This systematic review with meta-analysis sought to determine the protective effects of corticosteroids on clinical outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Preoperative atrial fibrillation and outcome in patients undergoing on-pump or off-pump coronary bypass surgery: lessons learned from the GOPCABE trial
CONCLUSIONS AF at admission is a significant risk factor for elderly patients undergoing coronary bypass grafting. However, this risk is not altered by performing bypass grafting off pump.

074-i * off-pump coronary artery bypass reduces early stroke in octogenarians: a meta-analysis of 18,000 patients
Conclusion: Coronary artery bypass in octogenarians can be performed with low early mortality. Number of grafts is lesser in the OPCABG cohort. While stroke rates are higher with conventional surgery, all other adverse events are comparable. Future randomised trials are needed to define the role of off-pump surgery in this high-risk cohort.

Conclusions: In elective cardiac surgery, there was no difference in clinical outcome between cold and warm blood cardioplegia. In emergency patients, however, with most of them operated on in acute coronary syndrome, warm cardioplegia might be an option to improve outcome.

A multicentre Spanish study for multivariate prediction of perioperative in-hospital cerebrovascular accident after coronary bypass surgery: the PACK2 score
CONCLUSIONS PACK2 risk scale shows good predictive accuracy in the data analysed and could be useful in clinical practice for decision making and patient selection.
