In conclusion, mild to moderate baseline thrombocytopenia does not seem to have a clinically significant effect on bleeding or thrombotic or thromboembolic complications after PCI in these frail patients receiving multiple antithrombotic drugs.

Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials on Risk of Myocardial Infarction from the Use of Oral Direct Thrombin Inhibitors
In conclusion, our data suggest that oral DTIs were associated with increased risk of MI. This increased risk appears to be a class effect of these agents, not a specific phenomenon unique to dabigatran or protective effect of warfarin. These findings support the need for enhanced postmarket surveillance of oral DTIs and other novel agents.

Predictors of Mortality in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation (From the Atrial Fibrillation Clopidogrel Trial with Irbesartan for Prevention of Vascular Events ACTIVE a)
The mortality rate of most patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) exceeds the stroke rate, but predictors of mortality have not been well defined. The Atrial Fibrillation Clopidogrel Trial with Irbesartan for prevention of Vascular Events (ACTIVE) recruited AF patients who were unsuitable to receive vitamin K-antagonists and were randomized to aspirin alone vs. aspirin plus clopidogrel. We investigated independent predictors of all-cause mortality by multivariable Cox regression analysis and explored interactions with assigned antiplatelet therapy.

Effectiveness of Only Aspirin or Clopidogrel Following Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Closure
Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) offers a feasible option for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), but the optimal antithrombotic treatment strategy for patients with strict contraindications to oral anticoagulation (OAC) remains uncertain. We sought to evaluate short- and long-term outcome after percutaneous LAAC in these very patients discharged on single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) alone. All consenting AF patients who underwent LAAC from February 2009 to August 2018 in Turku University Hospital, Finland, were enrolled into a prospectively maintained registry.
