Risk factors for stroke in a population of central China: A cross-sectional study
This study sought to investigate and analyze the distribution of stroke population and the main risk factors for stroke occurrence in a Chinese population, and to predict the probability of stroke occurrence in high-risk groups with risk factors, so as to provide a scientific basis for the comprehensive prevention and treatment of stroke. A whole-group sampling method was used to investigate 1009 participants in Jingzhou city in central China, and a uniform questionnaire survey and related medical examinations were conducted. Risk factors for and impact of poststroke pneumonia in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Poststroke pneumonia (PSP) is a common complication of stroke and an important cause of death following stroke. However, the treatment of PSP remains inadequate due to severe impairment to the respiratory system by PSP. Thus, it is crucial to focus on preventing PSP to improve the prognosis of patients with stroke. This prospective single-center Cohort study aimed to investigate the risk factors for pulmonary infection following an ischemic stroke and identify whether PSP significantly influences the prognosis of patients after stroke. Altogether, 451 patients who were treated for acute ischemic stroke in the First A...

A novel nonsense mutation in TNNT2 in a Chinese pedigree with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: A case report
Rationale: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an inherited myocardial disease and a common cause of sudden cardiac death, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and stroke. In families affected by HCM, genotyping is useful for identifying susceptible relatives. In the present study, we investigated the disease-causing mutations in a three-generation Chinese family with HCM using whole exome sequencing (WES). Patient concerns: The proband, a 50-year-old man, was diagnosed with HCM at the age of 41 years. He presented with an asymmetric hypertrophic interventricular septum and a maximum interventricular septum thickness o...

Risk factors analysis of nosocomial pneumonia in elderly patients with acute cerebral infraction
In this study, 324 aged 70 years and over patients with ACI who were admitted to the inpatient department of TianJin First Hospital (China) from January 2012 to February 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into NP group (80 patients) and non-NP group (244 patients) according to whether NP was occurred 48 hours after hospitalization. Baseline profiles and biochemical analyses were compared between 2 groups. Information regarding risk factors for NP in elderly patients with ACI was collected from all patients. Associations with NP and outcome were evaluated. Among the total patients, NP occurred ...
