Five-year-outcome of new-onset perioperative atrial fibrillation after left atrial appendage amputation concomitant with cardiac surgery
ConclusionPOAF is associated with a higher rate of the combined endpoint of all-cause mortality, stroke and rehospitalization. The composite endpoint in patients with LAA-amputation concomitant with OPCAB surgery developing new-onset POAF in a 5-year follow-up was not increased compared to a control cohort maintaining sinus rhythm.Graphical abstractFive-year outcome of patients with POAF and LAA-amputation;95% CI, 95% confidence interval,CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation,ECLS, extracorporeal life support,HR, hazard ratio,IABP, intra-aortic balloon pump,LAA, left atrial appendage,OPCAB, off-pump coronary artery bypass graf...

Are atrial high rate episodes (AHREs) a precursor to atrial fibrillation?
AbstractAtrial high rate episodes (AHREs), also termed, subclinical atrial tachyarrhythmias or subclinical atrial fibrillation (AF) are an important cardiovascular condition. Advancement in implantable cardiac devices such as pacemakers or internal cardiac defibrillators has enabled the continuous assessment of atrial tachyarrhythmias in patients with an atrial lead. Patients with device-detected AHREs are at an elevated risk of stroke and may have unmet anticoagulation needs. While the benefits of oral anticoagulation for stroke prevention in patients with clinical AF are well recognised, it is not known whether the same ...
