Evaluation of physician-modified endografts for the treatment of thoraco-abdominal and pararenal aortic pathologies at a single institution
CONCLUSIONS: When used by experienced teams under appropriate anatomical conditions, PMEGs are a safe and effective alternative to open surgery. However, further technical advancement and larger studies with long-term follow-up periods are warranted.PMID:34338495 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.21.11877-4

Routine Stent-Bridging to the Supraaortic Vessels in Aortic Arch Replacement - 10 year-experience
CONCLUSIONS: SAVSTEB is a comparatively simple, safe and efficacious technique to create the anastomosis between tetrabranched arch grafts and the supra-aortic arteries in the short and intermediate term. Bleeding from the anastomoses, kinking and scar associated stenosis are negligible; however, vertebral overstenting remains a critical technical issue.PMID:34186091 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.05.074

Novel use of the Sentinel cerebral protection device during thrombosed septal occluder explant and Atriclip appendage closure
ConclusionsWe demonstrate the first successful use of an SCPD during surgical excision of a mal-deployed occluder. With its ease of use and safety, SCPD may have utility in surgeries with high cardio-embolic risk.

Vascular procedures in patients with left ventricular assist devices: single-center experience
ConclusionPatients on LVAD support are a complex cohort with a high risk for perioperative complications. In a setting where device function and anticoagulation are monitored closely, vascular surgery in these patients is feasible with an acceptable perioperative risk.

Thrombotic complications of superficial endovenous ablation: a contemporary review of thermal and non-thermal techniques
J Cardiovasc Surg (Torino). 2021 Apr 23. doi: 10.23736/S0021-9509.21.11898-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEndovenous ablation has become the preferred means to treat superficial venous insufficiency. Ablative technologies have evolved to include a variety of both thermal and nonthermal techniques. The reported thrombotic complications of endovenous heat induced thrombosis (EHIT) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) associated with thermal techniques are low (<2% overall). However, the limited data on newer non-thermal technologies suggest these modalities may have thrombotic complication rates upwards of 6%. Additionally,...
