Remote aspiration thrombectomy in large vessel acute ischemic stroke
We report a three case series of patients with acute ischemic stroke from supraclinoidal internal carotid artery occlusions treated with remote aspiration thrombectomy through a BGC placed at the cervical internal carotid artery, leading to complete reperfusion without the need for intracranial catheterization. Remote thrombectomy in the setting of intracranial internal carotid artery occlusion may constitute a relatively fast and inexpensive initial thrombectomy maneuver. Further investigation is warranted.

Thrombus imaging characteristics within acute ischemic stroke: similarities and interdependence
Conclusions Thrombus imaging characteristics are significantly intercorrelated – strong correlations should be considered in future predictive modeling studies. Clustering analysis showed there are no distinct thrombus archetypes – novel treatments should consider this thrombus variability.

Evolution of thrombectomy approaches and devices for acute stroke: a technical review
While intravenous administration of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) remains the only FDA-approved treatment modality for acute ischemic stroke, many patients do not meet the criteria for intravenous tPA and are offered intra-arterial therapy. Active push deployment technique improves stent/vessel-wall interaction in endovascular treatment of acute stroke with stent retrievers
Conclusions The APD technique improves apposition of the tested devices to the vessel wall. The widening effect comes at the cost of minimal shortening of the devices. Our clinical experience shows that using the APD technique to deploy the Trevo device is effective and safe.

Impact of thrombus length on recanalization and clinical outcome following mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke
Conclusions In this study, thrombus length had no relevant impact on recanalization, neurological outcome, or intraprocedural complications following mechanical thrombectomy of middle cerebral artery occlusions. Therefore, mechanical thrombectomy with stent retrievers can be attempted with large clots.

Histological evaluation of acute ischemic stroke thrombi may indicate the occurrence of vessel wall injury during mechanical thrombectomy
Conclusions Histological markers of VWI were present in 12% of AIS thrombi, suggesting that VWI might be related to MT. VWI was associated with soft thrombus consistency, higher number of passes and poorer revascularization outcome. There was no significant correlation between VWI and MT device.

Real-world outcomes associated with the use of the EmboTrap revascularization device for ischemic stroke in the United States
Conclusions This is the first study in the US to report real-world outcomes sourced by retrospective database analysis among patients with AIS undergoing MT using the EmboTrap device. Further research is needed to better understand performance of the EmboTrap device in real-world settings.

Thrombus radiomics in patients with anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke undergoing endovascular treatment
Conclusions TR describing thrombus volume and texture were associated with more attempts to successful reperfusion. Compared with models using CV and MTM, TR had no added value for predicting procedural and functional outcome.

Noninfectious complications of acute stroke and their impact on hospital mortality in patients admitted to a stroke unit in Warsaw from 1995 to 2015
Conclusions Over the last two decades Polish urban stroke units may have achieved a significant reduction of the occurrence of some noninfectious complications (i.e. MI, exacerbated CHF and DVT). However, the list of conditions associated with stroke unit mortality includes not only MI and exacerbated CHF but also PE, gastrointestinal bleeding and recurrent stroke.

Corrective spinal surgery may be protective against stroke in patients with blunt traumatic vertebral artery occlusion.
CONCLUSIONS Traumatic VA occlusion is associated with a risk of ischemic stroke and mortality. Corrective cervical spine surgery potentially decreases the risk of ischemic stroke by stabilizing the spine and thereby reducing motion across the occluded segment of the VA and preventing embolization of thrombus. While a high stoke risk may be inherent to the disease, novel therapies should be investigated. PMID: 26186525 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
