Updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on primary outpatient thromboprophylaxis in patients with gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancers receiving chemotherapy
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2023 Jul 3;36(5):635-640. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2023.2225913. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAdvanced gastric cancer is a highly thrombogenic cancer per Khorana score. Recent clinical practice guidelines suggest primary outpatient thromboprophylaxis (POTP) for patients with a Khorana score ≥2. We performed an updated meta-analysis to evaluate the benefit of POTP in patients with gastric cancer and gastroesophageal junction cancers receiving chemotherapy. Randomized controlled trials with reduction in venous thromboembolism (VTE) as a primary or secondary endpoint were incorporated. A total of 631 pat...

Association of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease with acute cholangitis: a nationwide propensity-matched analysis from the United States
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed an association between NALFD and AC, resulting in increased length of stay, hospital charges, and inpatient mortality. Underlying NAFLD also increases acute complications of AC.PMID:37614865 | PMC:PMC10443993 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2023.2231721

Efficient bloodless mechanical thrombectomy for massive dural sinus thrombosis associated with COVID-19 using the 12-French Penumbra Lightning intelligent aspiration system
We present a case where the Penumbra Lightning aspiration system, currently approved for thrombectomy in the peripheral and pulmonary vasculature, was successfully used for dural sinus thrombectomy with rapid clinical improvement of the patient.PMID:37091753 | PMC:PMC10120446 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2023.2167186

Dobutamine-supported WATCHMAN FLX implant in a patient with recurrent left atrial appendage thrombus and spontaneous echo contrast formation
We present a rare case of dobutamine-supported WATCHMAN FLX™ device deployment in a medically complex patient prone to recurrent left atrial appendage thrombus and spontaneous echo contrast formation due to underlying low-flow state.PMID:35754592 | PMC:PMC9196755 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2022.2057212
