Depression status and functional outcome of patients with ischemic stroke and the impact on caregivers living in Chengdu: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionThe PSSS score was a major risk factor for the development of depression in IS survivors, and patients’ depression status and severe functional deficits had a negative impact on the ZBI score of the main caregivers. Social support can reduce the ZBI score.

Serum alkaline phosphatase was independently associated with depression in patients with cerebrovascular disease
ConclusionHb, hs-CRP, ChE, ALP, and HDL-C concentrations are potential blood markers of depression in CVD patients and, when combined, may improve diagnostic performance for VDe. Serum ALP was independently associated with VDe in patients with CVD.

Investigating the causal association of postpartum depression with cerebrovascular diseases and cognitive impairment: a Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionThe causal association between PPD and cognitive impairment indicates that cognitive impairment is a critical aspect of PPD and thus cannot be regarded as an epiphenomenon. Addressing cognitive impairment and lessening the symptoms associated with PPD independently play significant roles in the treatment of PPD.

Conclusion: The stress and psychological status of informal caregivers varied in the different stages of stroke, and they were affected by several factors. Medical staff should pay attention to informal caregivers while providing care for patients. Relevant interventions may be developed based on the results to improve the health of informal caregivers and thus to promote the health of patients.

Psychological status on informal carers for stroke survivors at various phases: a cohort study in China
ConclusionThe stress and psychological status of informal caregivers varied in the different stages of stroke, and they were affected by several factors. Medical staff should pay attention to informal caregivers while providing care for patients. Relevant interventions may be developed based on the results to improve the health of informal caregivers and thus to promote the health of patients.

Case report: Diagnostic challenges in a patient with alcohol use disorder that developed following a stroke
This report details the complex history and clinical challenges in a 54-year-old man who was no longer able to work after developing multiple neurologic deficits from a left MCA stroke a decade earlier. The intellectual and motor disabilities he faced in the aftermath of his stroke were subsequently compounded by a steady increase in alcohol consumption, with his behavior ultimately progressing to severe alcohol use disorder. The coinciding neurologic and psychiatric manifestations obfuscate the workup—and therefore the management—of his major depressive disorder. In pursuit of the optimal approach to address these com...

Influencing factors of home exercise adherence in elderly patients with stroke: A multiperspective qualitative study
ConclusionHome exercise adherence in elderly patients with stroke was influenced by many factors. Medical staff should assess the patient’s physical function and depression, establish a multi-support system, formulate personalized exercise prescription, pay attention to the monitoring and feedback of home-based exercise rehabilitation, and improve the home-based rehabilitation model for stroke, so as to improve the home exercise adherence in elderly patients with stroke and promote the best rehabilitation effect.

Depression, anxiety, insomnia, stress, and the way of coping emotions as risk factors for ischemic stroke and their influence on stroke severity: A case –control study in Lebanon
ConclusionDespite several limitations, the findings of our study suggest that people who are depressed or stressed are more likely to have an ischemic stroke. Consequently, additional research into the causes and effects of depression and perceived stress may provide new directions for preventive strategies that can help reduce the risk of stroke. Since pre-stroke depression and perceived stress were also found to be strongly correlated with stroke severity, future studies should evaluate the association between pre-stroke depression, perceived stress, and stroke severity to gain a deeper understanding of the complex inter...

Predictors of post-stroke depression: Validation of established risk factors and introduction of a dynamic perspective in two longitudinal studies
DiscussionHistory of mental disorder, physical disability, and social support are independent predictors of depressive symptoms in the first year post-stroke, also when considered conjointly. Future studies should control for these variables when investigating new predictors of PSD. In addition, intraindividual changes in known predictors after stroke play a relevant role in the pathogenesis of PSD and should be considered in clinical practice and future research.
