Central poststroke pain in young ischemic stroke survivors in the Helsinki Young Stroke Registry
Conclusions: Late persistent CPSP was found in 5.9% of young stroke survivors and was associated with concomitant other pain, impaired quality of life, and moderate or severe stroke symptoms.

Activity limitations and subjective well-being after stroke
Conclusions: Activity limitations were not associated with stroke survivors' subjective well-being after adjustment for other factors. While some predictors of well-being after stroke were identified, the determinants of well-being remained largely unexplained.

Shoulder taping reduces injury and pain in stroke patients: Randomized controlled trial
Conclusions: Although there was a trend toward pain reduction and functional improvement associated with shoulder taping for 2 weeks after acute stage of stroke, this did not reach statistical significance. The long-term effects of taping need to be studied in large trials. Classification of evidence: This study provided Class III evidence that tri-pull shoulder taping was ineffective in significantly reducing shoulder pain in patients with acute stoke.

Early prediction of long-term upper limb spasticity after stroke: Part of the SALGOT study
Conclusions: Reduced sensorimotor function was the most important predictor both for any and severe spasticity, and spasticity could be predicted with high sensitivity and specificity 10 days poststroke.

Self-perceived psychological stress and risk of all-cause mortality after stroke: the Mashhad Stroke Incidence Study (MSIS) (P4.306)
Conclusions:High self-perceived pre-stroke stress was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality after stroke. Further prospective studies are required to evaluate the role of psychological stress as a predictor of stroke outcome.Disclosure: Dr. Saber has nothing to disclose. Frequency of Post Stroke Shoulder Pain (P02.030)
CONCLUSIONS: Shoulder pain after stroke occurred in 40% of 88 patients surviving, consenting to participate. Eighty percent of patients made a good recovery with NSAID Patients with sensory and or motor deficits represent at risk sub-groups. There was no difference between gender.Disclosure: Dr. Dobi has nothing to disclose. Dr. Kapisyzi has nothing to disclose. Dr. Kruja has nothing to disclose.

Early Palliative Care Consultation Decreases Length of Stay in Severe Stroke Patients (P1.211)
Conclusions:Early PCC in severe stroke patients decreased hospital LOS by 3 days. This may be due to prompt clarification of goals of care and hastened discharge to hospice. Advanced age, poor pre-stroke functional status, and severe post-stroke deficits and disability warrant early PCC. In addition to decreasing LOS, further study is needed to determine whether early PCC also limits futile tests, procedures, and iatrogenic complications. Ultimately, timely identification of PCC candidates may produce higher satisfaction and decreased hospital costs.Disclosure: Dr. Schloss has nothing to disclose. Dr. Tversky has nothing t...

Effect of early use of AbobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport(R)) after stroke on spasticity progression: first results of a pilot study (P4.032)
Conclusions:Median time between first injection (administered in patients 2–12 weeks post-stroke, MAS ≥2) and appearance of reinjection criteria (signs of symptomatic spasticity) was statistically significantly longer with aboBoNT-A compared with placebo. Safety profile was consistent with the known profile of aboBoNT-A.Study Supported by:Study supported by IpsenDisclosure: Dr. Rosales has received personal compensation for activities with Ipsen and Pfizer as a scientific advisory board member and consultant. Measuring Health-Related Quality Of Life (HRQOL) During Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation (S21.002)
CONCLUSIONS: EQ-5 ratings converged between stroke survivors and clinicians, suggesting it is valid and reliable to measure moderate stroke survivor HRQOL in inpatient rehabilitation. EQ-5 and FIM improvement were poorly associated; HRQOL may independently complement functional outcome assessment in inpatient rehabilitation. Future studies could explore different areas of function to clarify the factor structure of improvement on these measures relative to HRQL.Study Supported by: NIH, Kessler FoundationDisclosure: Dr. Frisina has received personal compensation for activities with Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation as an...

What factors predict Fitbit adherence in Stroke and Parkinson disease? (P6.029)
Conclusions:The strongest predictor of adherence to daily activity monitoring was level of medical co-morbidity. Other determinants of adherence were self-efficacy for managing conditions, e-Health literacy and pain. Age and level of disability did not affect daily use of small wireless monitors to track activity in stroke and PD.Disclosure: Dr. Schrader has nothing to disclose. Presence of decreased Intraepidermal Nerve Fiber Density consistent with Small Fiber Neuropathy in Patients with Central Post-Stroke Pain (P1.050)
CONCLUSIONS: We have demonstrated evidence of decreased ENFD in a small series of patients with CPSP. These findings do not imply causality; however, they do bring up several important questions for further consideration. Does the central nervous system injury associated with stroke result in small fiber neuropathy in certain patients? Are patients with asymptomatic, previously undiagnosed small fiber neuropathy at increased risk for developing CPSP following a stroke? Do these findings have any implication for treatment? Further studies including prospective analyses are necessary to better understand these findings for b...

Cervical artery dissection: Trauma and other potential mechanical trigger events
Conclusion: PCT seems to be an important environmental determinant of CeAD, but was not an independent outcome predictor. Because of the characteristics of most PCTs, the term mechanical trigger event rather than trauma may be more appropriate.
