Clinico-radiological predictors of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) in patients with stroke: A prospective observational study
Conclusion: Post-stroke cognitive impairment is frequent and is associated with poor functional outcome. Predictors like lower educational status, strategic site lesion, greater severity of age related white matter changes and baseline stroke severity independently contributed to the risk of developing VCI in stroke patients.Highlights:

Stroke warning syndrome: 18 new cases
Conclusion: SWS is an under-recognized syndrome. Intravenous rt-PA treatment seems to have lower efficacy than in other subtypes of strokes, but none of the patients with SWS undergoing treatment presented haemorrhagic transformation or other complications.

Estimated glomerular filtration rate and incident stroke in patients with hypertension and/or diabetes
Sarfo et al. conducted a prospective study to evaluate the effect of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) on incident stroke in patients with hypertension and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus [1]. The authors had reported the risk factors of incident stroke in patients with hypertension and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus by using the same database [2]. Patients with hypertension and/or diabetes and incident stroke: A risk assessment
Sarfo et al. conducted a prospective study to evaluate the risk of hypertension and diabetes for incident stroke [1]. The authors recognized 54 events of stroke, and incidence rates (95% confidence intervals [CIs]) of stroke per 1000 person-years in patients with diabetes and hypertension, only hypertension and only diabetes were 16.64 (10.58 –25.00), 13.77 (9.33–19.64) and 9.81 (3.59–21.74), respectively. In addition, adjusted hazard ratios (95% CI) of previous cigarette smoking and physical inactivity for incident stroke were 2.59 (1.18–5.67) and 1.81 (1.06–3.10).

Risk factors and acute ischemic stroke subtypes
Conclusion: Specific AIS etiology and blood characteristics associated independently to the youngest and oldest AIS patients, respectively. Chronic kidney disease was a specific predictor of cerebellum–brainstem AIS. AIS mortality showed peculiar association with the oldest patients.

The treatment outcomes in the use of rt-PA have been reported. Some studies reported worse outcome in women than men, while others presented opposing data. Using data from a hospital-based stroke registry, we investigated evidence of gender difference and determined exclusion criteria in a stroke population with incidence of hypertension.
