Stroke Patient Length of Stay Benchmarking and Analysis (P2.129)
CONCLUSIONS: At our facility, severity of illness and medical complications were the primary issues causing increased LOS in stroke patients. Analysis of expected and observed length of stay, complications, outliers, and payer can provide insights into issues increasing LOS. Disclosure: Dr. Diebolt has nothing to disclose. Show or No-Show - That Is the Question: Lack of Outpatient Follow-up a After Acute Stroke. (P2.131)
CONCLUSION: Poor follow up rates were seen overall. Medicare, Medicaid, and self-pay patients were least likely to follow up. Patients discharged to inpatient rehabilitation or nursing facilities had a low follow-up rate, as did those patients living at a geographic distance from our facilities. Better education of the importance of follow-up prior to discharge is needed.Disclosure: Dr. Chaudhary has nothing to disclose. Dr. Lee has nothing to disclose.

Neuroimaging findings of post-thrombolysis cerebral hemorrhage in acute ischemic stroke (P6.238)
Conclusion: The most common pattern of hemorrhage observed after IV-tPA in acute ischemic stroke was petechial hemorrhagic transformation of ischemic infarct, which is most suggestive of bleeding due to blood-brain breakdown at the site of infarction. Unusual patterns of hemorrhage (such as multiplicity and remote ICH) are rare. Further studies are warranted to better understand the underlying mechanisms of hemorrhagic complications after thrombolysis.Disclosure: Dr. Lee has nothing to disclose. Incidence of ischemic or hemorrhagic non-fatal strokes in hemophiliac adults and teenage children (P7.127)
Conclusions: The rate of stroke appears to be low in adults and teenage children in a cohort of hemophiliacs with predominantly moderate and severe disease.Disclosure: Dr. Bezzina has nothing to disclose. Dr. Malik has nothing to disclose. Dr. QURESHI has nothing to disclose.

IV thrombolysis in patients with ischemic stroke and alcohol abuse
Conclusions: IS patients with chronic alcohol consumption or acute intoxication have decreased likelihood of receiving IVT and are not at an increased risk of associated SICH. This supports current practice guidelines, which do not list chronic alcohol consumption or acute intoxication as an exclusion criterion.

Outcome Predictors After Successful Intra-Arterial Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke (P1.195)
Conclusion: Age, NIHSS score, use of stent retrievers, mode of anesthesia, and symptomatic ICH might affect functional outcome in stroke patients who achieve successful recanalization via intra-arterial therapy. Prospective studies, or a meta-analysis of sub-groups in the recently published prospective trials are needed to confirm the association between those factors, or others, and functional outcome.Disclosure: Dr. Noufal has nothing to disclose. When Non-Revascularized Transfer Patients Come A-Knocking at a Stroke Center (P1.201)
Conclusions: Despite having more severe strokes and higher frequency of adverse events, patients transferred into our CSC did not have worse short term functional outcomes. This highlights the importance of specialized inpatient care provided in NICUs and stroke units by experienced multidisciplinary teams.Disclosure: Dr. Sands has received research support from Biogen. Site of Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH) Is a Predictor of Cardiovascular Autonomic Dysfunction in Patients with Acute Primary ICH (P1.224)
CONCLUSIONS: Autonomic dysfunction occurs in ICH patients and correlates with site of hematoma. Alcoholism and In-Hospital Mortality among Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients in Puerto Rico (P1.263)
Conclusions: The adjusted OR of 3.18 suggests a positive association and in-patient hemorrhagic stroke mortality. However the small sample size and low power limit the ability to delineate a clear statistical association, thereby warranting further study into this subject matter as alcoholism is a modifiable risk factor and early interventions may lower hemorrhagic stroke mortality in this population.Disclosure: Dr. Smirnoff has nothing to disclose. Computed Tomography Perfusion Imaging in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Do the Benefits Outweigh the Costs? (P2.299)
Conclusion: Because patients with larger infarct cores are 56 times more likely to experience post-tPA hemorrhagic conversion than patients with smaller infarct cores and CTP is not accurate in identifying the infarct core in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke, CTP studies should not be part of the acute stroke imaging protocol. Another imaging modality, such as MR-DWI, should be used instead of CTP in the setting of acute ischemic stroke to identify the infarct core.Disclosure: Dr. Willows has nothing to disclose. From 'Sweet Clover Disease' to NOACs: A Historical Perspective on Oral Anticoagulation for Prevention of Cardioembolic Stroke (P2.397)
CONCLUSIONS: Warfarin, born from ‘sweet clover disease’ and humble beginnings as rodenticide, has been the cornerstone of cardioembolic stroke prevention. Its shortcomings inspired the development of a new generation of oral anticoagulants.Disclosure: Dr. Chiota-McCollum has nothing to disclose.

Unusual Intersection: Elucidating the Role of Erdheim Chester Disease in Stroke (P4.366)
Conclusion:A unifying diagnosis of ECD was identified for this gentleman presenting with a stroke in the setting of critical ICA stenosis. Pathology from his CEA suggests that while ECD involves multisystem inflammation, it did not appear to play a direct role in his stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Sheikhi has nothing to disclose.

Off-Hours Emergency Department Arrival Does Not Result in Poor Outcomes Among Intracerebral Hemorrhage Patients Admitted to a Comprehensive Stroke Center (P2.275)
Conclusions:Off-hour admission was not associated with increased risk of infectious complications, length of stay, discharge functional status or discharge disposition. The lack of an off-hours effect in ICH patients may be related to the standardized protocols and available resources found at a CSC. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings in a larger sample.Disclosure: Dr. Gupta has nothing to disclose. Dr. Albright has nothing to disclose. Dr. Gropen has nothing to disclose.
