Outcomes of intravenous tissue plasminogen activator for acute ischaemic stroke in HIV‐infected adults
ConclusionsThe in‐hospital mortality is higher amongst HIV‐infected AIS patients than HIV‐uninfected patients. However, the risk of death amongst HIV‐infected patients treated with IV‐TPA is similar to HIV‐uninfected groups.

Dehydration is an independent predictor of discharge outcome and admission cost in acute ischaemic stroke
ConclusionAdmission dehydration is associated with worse discharge outcomes and higher admission costs in acute ischaemic stroke but not in hemorrhagic stroke.

Periodontal disease and stroke: a meta‐analysis of cohort studies
This review aimed to determine the association between periodontal disease and stroke incidence by a meta‐analysis of cohort studies. Cohort studies that evaluated the incidence of stroke (fatal or non‐fatal, ischaemic or haemorrhagic) and baseline periodontal status and calculated relative risk values were included. The quality of the included studies was assessed using an evaluation grid. The analyses were conducted separately for three outcomes: periodontitis, gingivitis and loss of teeth. Adjusted values of relative risk or of hazard ratio were used to assess risk values in each study. Random effects meta‐analyse...

Comparison of stent retriever and intra‐arterial fibrinolysis in patients with acute ischaemic stroke
ConclusionsStent retriever was as safe as and more effective than IAF. Our findings suggest that SR may be considered as an initial modality rather than IAF in acute stroke patients who undergo endovascular treatment.

Intracranial artery dissection
The aim of this narrative review is to evaluate the pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of intracranial artery dissection (IAD). IAD is a rare and often unrecognized cause of stroke or subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), especially in young adults. Two types of IAD can be identified: a subintimal or subadventitial dissection. It is suggested that a subintimal dissection results in luminal stenosis, thromboembolism and subsequently cerebral ischaemia, whilst a subadventitial IAD could result in the formation of a pseudo‐aneurysm and compression on brainstem or cranial nerves. Rupture of such a ...

Effects of emergency medical service transport on acute stroke care
ConclusionsPatient transport with EMS was independently associated with faster hospital arrival and shorter time periods from hospital admission to brain imaging and to the frequency of thrombolysis.

Higher baseline international normalized ratio value correlates with higher mortality in intracerebral hemorrhage during warfarin use
ConclusionsPatients with OAC‐associated ICH had more severe strokes and higher mortality compared with patients with ICH not related to OAC. Higher baseline INR was associated with increased 3‐month mortality.

Effects of low estimated glomerular filtration rate on outcomes after stroke: a hospital‐based stroke registry in China

Intravenous thrombolysis for patients with reverse magnetic resonance angiography and diffusion‐weighted imaging mismatch: SAMURAI and NCVC rt‐PA Registries
ConclusionRMM was observed in 5% of patients treated with rt‐PA and associated with cardioembolism. Patients with RMM may benefit from thrombolysis compared with those with EIC with MAO, although increment in the rate of sICH is a concern.

Benefit of thrombolysis for stroke is maintained around the clock: results from the SITS‐EAST Registry
ConclusionsThe time when stroke occurs (day versus evening versus night) does not affect the outcome after thrombolysis despite the fact that patients with night‐time strokes have worse time management.
