Social deprivation and stroke severity on admission: a French cohort study in Burgundy and the West Indies – Guyana region
ConclusionsSocial deprivation was associated with a more severe clinical presentation in patients with stroke. These findings may contribute to the worse outcome after stroke in deprived patients, and underline the need for strategies to reduce social inequalities for stroke.

Liver function may play an uneven role in haemorrhagic transformation for stroke subtypes after acute ischaemic stroke
ConclusionsLiver function played an uneven role in HT for different stroke subtypes. Indicators of liver function independently associated with HT were AST for cardioembolic stroke, BILI for stroke of undetermined aetiology and none for stroke of large‐artery atherosclerosis and small‐artery occlusion.

Stroke care organization overcomes the deleterious ‘weekend effect’ on 1‐month stroke mortality: a population‐based study
ConclusionThe deleterious effect of weekends/bank holidays on early stroke mortality disappeared after the organization of a dedicated stroke care network in our community. Our findings provide strong support for the implementation of quality improvement initiatives in order to attenuate inequalities in the management of stroke patients.

Young adult ischaemic stroke related acute symptomatic and late seizures: risk factors
ConclusionsIn young ischaemic stroke patients, the magnitude of seizure risk and the major risk factors were similar to older ischaemic stroke patients but risk factors for ASSs and LPSs differed.

Impact of proteinuria and glomerular filtration rate on risk of ischaemic and intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke: a result from the Kailuan study
ConclusionsProteinuria increased the risk of stroke in a general Chinese population.

Predictors of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage in off ‐label thrombolysis: an analysis of the safe implementation of treatments in stroke registry
ConclusionsThrombolysis appears to be safe with regard to SICH for most of the off‐label criteria, especially for minor stroke, but is risky in patients with high blood pressure. Individual risk–benefit evaluation should be performed.

Periodontal disease and stroke: a meta‐analysis of cohort studies
This review aimed to determine the association between periodontal disease and stroke incidence by a meta‐analysis of cohort studies. Cohort studies that evaluated the incidence of stroke (fatal or non‐fatal, ischaemic or haemorrhagic) and baseline periodontal status and calculated relative risk values were included. The quality of the included studies was assessed using an evaluation grid. The analyses were conducted separately for three outcomes: periodontitis, gingivitis and loss of teeth. Adjusted values of relative risk or of hazard ratio were used to assess risk values in each study. Random effects meta‐analyse...

Associations of chronic heart failure with outcome in acute ischaemic stroke patients who received systemic thrombolysis: analysis from VISTA
ConclusionsChronic heart failure was associated with a worse outcome with or without thrombolysis. However, acute stroke patients who received thrombolysis had more favourable outcome regardless of CHF status, compared with their untreated peers. Our findings should reassure clinicians considering systemic thrombolysis treatment in hyperacute ischaemic stroke patients with CHF.

Are migraine and non‐migrainous headache risk factors for stroke in the elderly? Findings from a 12‐year cohort follow‐up
ConclusionsThis study is one of the first to suggest that late‐life NMH rather than migraine could be an independent risk factor for stroke and a warning sign. The incidence of stroke in elderly migrainers, seldom reported, is particularly low.
