Differential associations between pre-diabetes, diabetes and stroke occurrence among West Africans
CONCLUSION: Pre-DM is strongly and independently associated with stroke in Africans. Improving glycemic control through screening, healthy lifestyle and pharmacotherapy at a population level may be strategic in reducing the rising burden of stroke in Africa.PMID:36194925 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2022.106805

One-year recurrence of stroke and death in Lebanese survivors of first-ever stroke: Time-to-Event analysis
CONCLUSION: Higher rates of stroke recurrence and death were observed in the first year following a stroke in Lebanon. Various factors were identified as significant determinants. Thus, health care providers and officials in Lebanon can use these findings to implement effective preventive strategies to best address the management of these factors to reduce the stroke burden and improve the short and long-term prognosis of stroke survivors.PMID:36452174 | PMC:PMC9702576 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2022.973200

Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number as a Marker and Mediator of Stroke Prognosis: Observational and Mendelian Randomization Analyses
CONCLUSIONS: Buffy coat mtDNA-CN is a novel and robust marker of post-stroke prognosis that may also be a causal determinant of post-stroke outcomes.CLASSIFICATION OF EVIDENCE: This study provides class II evidence that low buffy coat mtDNA-CN (>1-standard deviation) was associated with worse baseline severity and 1-month outcomes in patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke.PMID:34880091 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000013165

Dental Caries a Risk Factor for Intracerebral Hemorrhage
CONCLUSION: Dental caries is a potential risk for incident ICH after caries detection. Future studies are needed to determine if treatment of dental caries can reduce the risk of ICH.PMID:37231788 | DOI:10.1159/000530568
