Stroke Center Care and Outcome: Results from the CSPPC Stroke Program
AbstractThe aim of this study was to assess the association between admission to stroke centers for acute ischemic stroke and complications and mortality during hospitalization in a Chinese population by means of an observational study using data from the China Stroke Center Data-Sharing Platform. We compared in-hospital complications and mortality for patients admitted with acute ischemic stroke (N = 13,236) between November 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018 at stroke center (SH) and non-stroke center (CH) hospitals using distance to hospitals as an instrumental variable to adjust for potential prehospital selection bias....

Increased Stroke Risk in Metabolically Abnormal Normal Weight: a 10-Year Follow-up of 102,037 Participants in China
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the risks of stroke in subjects with metabolically abnormal normal weight (MANW) in China. We recruited 102,037 participants from the Zhejiang Metabolic Syndrome Cohort and the Kailuan cohort. The mean years of follow-up were 9.9  years. General obesity was defined by body mass index (BMI) ≥ 28, overweight by BMI <  28 and ≥ 24, and normal weight by BMI <  24 and ≥ 18.5. Metabolic abnormality was defined as two or more abnormal components (elevated triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, elevated systolic blood pressure or di...

Iodinated Contrast Agents Reduce the Efficacy of Intravenous Recombinant Tissue-Type Plasminogen Activator in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients: a Multicenter Cohort Study
This study aimed to investigate whether the application of iodinated contrast agents before intravenous (IV) recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) reduces the efficacy in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. To determine whether the application of iodinated contrast agents before intravenous rt-PA reduces the efficacy in AIS patients. We analyzed our prospectively collected data of consecutive AIS patients receiving IV rt-PA treatment in the MISSION CHINA study. Clinical outcome at 3  months was assessed with modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score and dichotomized into good outcome (0–2) and poor outcome (3–6)....

A Novel Mutation in COL4A1 Gene in a Chinese Family with Pontine Autosomal Dominant Microangiopathy and Leukoencephalopathy
We report a novel collagen type IV alpha 1 (COL4A1) gene mutation in a Chinese family with PADMAL. The index case was followed up for 6  years. Neuroimaging, whole-exome sequencing, skin biopsy, and pedigree analysis were performed. She initially presented with minor head injury at age 38. MRI brain showed chronic lacunar infarcts in the pons, left thalamus, and right centrum semiovale. Extensive workup was unremarkable except for a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Despite anticoagulation, PFO closure, and antiplatelet therapy, the patient had recurrent lacunar infarcts in the pons and deep white matter, as well as subcortical...

Effect of INR on Outcomes of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Vertebrobasilar Artery Occlusion
This study aimed to analyze the effects of international normalized ratio (INR) indicators on outcomes in patients with acute VBAO treated with EVT. Dynamic data on INR in patients with VBAO who received endovascular treatment (EVT) at 65 stroke centers in China were retrospectively enrolled. Outcome measures included the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 90  days and 1 year and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH). The associations between elevated INR (INR >  1.1), INR variability (time-weighted variance of INR changes), and various clinical outcomes were analyzed in all patients and subgroups stratifie...

Alpha-Asarone Ameliorates Neurological Dysfunction of Subarachnoid Hemorrhagic Rats in Both Acute and Recovery Phases via Regulating the CaMKII-Dependent Pathways
AbstractEarly brain injury (EBI) is the leading cause of poor prognosis for patients suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), particularly learning and memory deficits in the repair phase. A recent report has involved calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) in the pathophysiological process underlying SAH-induced EBI. Alpha-asarone (ASA), a major compound isolated from the Chinese medicinal herbAcorus tatarinowii Schott, was proven to reduce secondary brain injury by decreasing CaMKII over-phosphorylation in rats ’ model of intracerebral hemorrhage in our previous report. However, the effect of ASA o...
