Abstract 268: Is There a Weekend Effect on Telestroke Code Time Metrics? Session Title: Poster Session PM
Conclusion: While there were no significant differences in outcomes, the "weekend effect" results in slower door to code activation and door to needle times. Efforts to improve methods in increasing efficiency of care on weekends should be considered.

Abstract 211: Association of Patient Characteristics With the Initiation of Dabigatran Versus Warfarin Among Anticoagulant Naive Patients With Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation Poster Session II
Conclusions: Patients who are younger, male, Caucasian, and recently diagnosed with NVAF were significantly more likely to be initiated by their physician on DE vs. warfarin. These findings should be considered when doing comparative analyses of outcomes between patients on DE vs. warfarin.

Abstract 246: Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome and Spontaneous Hemorrhage are the Most Common Causes of Peripartum Subarachnoid and Intracerebral Hemorrhage. Poster Session II
Conclusions: Etiologies in peripartum SAH and ICH differ from the general population. Aneurysmal bleeds were absent in our case series. Rates of SAH and ICH may be higher in patients who underwent cesarean section. In conclusion, peripartum subarachnoid and intracranial hemorrhages have a different pathophysiologic process than in the general population.

Abstract 250: Economic Burden of Mortality and Cardiovascular Events among Patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes in a Commercial Health Plan Poster Session III
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a modest 10% increase in anticoagulant use among patients with ACS would reduce mortality, MI, ST and related healthcare costs by 4%, 0.7%, and 3%, respectively. Addition of anticoagulation therapy potentially reduces the incidence of ACS-related mortality, MI, ST and associated healthcare costs to a commercial health plan, and benefits from anticoagulation use should be balanced against the risk of bleeding.

Abstract 315: Feasibility of outpatient ambulatory ECG monitoring to screen for silent atrial fibrillation: Pilot Findings from Screening Trial for Undiagnosed Atrial Fibrillation (STUDY-AF) Poster Session III
CONCLUSION: Ambulatory screening of asymptomatic arrhythmias using the Zio® Patch is feasible; however the diagnostic yield for silent AF may be low, even among patients with established AF risk factors. Our study found a high prevalence of incidental asymptomatic SVT and NSVT. A larger trial with more targeted enrollment may be required to demonstrate the value of screening for AF. The impact of detecting incidental NSVT or SVT, which themselves could prompt evaluation and may be relevant to development of AF, requires further investigation.

The Effect of an EDTA-based Chelation Regimen on Patients With Diabetes Mellitus and Prior Myocardial Infarction in the Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) Original Articles
Conclusions— Post–myocardial infarction patients with diabetes mellitus aged ≥50 demonstrated a marked reduction in cardiovascular events with EDTA chelation. These findings support efforts to replicate these findings and define the mechanisms of benefit. However, they do not constitute sufficient evidence to indicate the routine use of chelation therapy for all post–myocardial infarction patients with diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: Inappropriate aspirin prescribing occurs in approximately one third of patients receiving aspirin for primary prevention. There is modest but significant practice-level variation. Our findings identify opportunities to improve evidence-based aspirin prescribing in primary CVD prevention.

Conclusion: Secondary prevention ASA use in primary care settings remains high, but ASA use for primary prevention of cardiovascular events is low. Despite creation of national guidelines, aspirin use in the PP population is half the rate of ASA use for secondary prevention. Additional methods to safely and effectively disseminate this primary prevention aspirin use recommendation, targeting both the public and health care providers, are warranted.

Abstract 307: Gender Differences in Recurrent Cardiovascular Events Among High-risk Patients With Hyperlipidemia Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: Among high-risk patients (i.e. history of CV events) enrolled in US health plans, women were more likely to have a subsequent CV event and multiple CV events sooner than men. Further research is needed to ascertain whether the gender differences might reflect differences in the intensity of treatment for hyperlipidemia between men and women.

Conclusions: Among this cohort of AF patients with an indication for OAC use, older age and HTN were strongly associated with greater OAC use whereas female gender and vascular disease were associated with less OAC use. Further investigation is needed to understand reasons for these differences in how risk factors influence decisions to provide OAC, such as patient or provider preference or gender bias.

Safety and Use of Anticoagulation After Aortic Valve Replacement With Bioprostheses: A Meta-Analysis Original Articles
Conclusions— Contrary to the current guidelines, a meta-analysis of previous studies suggests that anticoagulation in the setting of an aortic bioprosthesis significantly increases bleeding risk without a favorable effect on thromboembolic events. Larger, randomized controlled studies should be performed to further guide this clinical practice.

Long-Term Persistence of Newly Initiated Warfarin Therapy in Chinese Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Original Articles
Conclusions— Nonpersistence of warfarin treatment becomes a serious problem for stroke prevention in Chinese patients with nonvalvular AF. Our findings can be used to identify patients who require closer attention or to develop better management strategy for oral anticoagulation therapy.
