Observation for the effect of rTMS combined with magnetic stimulation at Neiguan (PC6) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) points on limb function after stroke: A study protocol
Conclusion: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of repetitive magnetic stimulation of M1 region combined with magnetic stimulation of Neiguan and Sanyinjiao points on limb function after stroke. Through this study, we expect to explore a new scheme for the treatment of poststroke dyskinesia, and prove that compared with rTMS and acupuncture alone, the closed-loop rehabilitation theory based on “center peripheral center” can be more efficient and safe in the treatment of poststroke limb dysfunction. Trial Registration: The trial was registered in China clinical trial registry (http://www.chictr.or...

Association between dynamic obesity and mortality in patients with first-ever ischemic stroke: A hospital-based prospective study
Although obesity is an established risk factor of primary stroke, the association between obesity and post-stroke mortality remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between dynamic obesity status and mortality in survivors of their first stroke in China. Of 775 patients with first-ever ischemic stroke included in a longitudinal study, 754 patients were included in this study and categorized into 4 categories of body mass index (BMI) (underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese) and 2 categories of waist circumference (WC) (normal WC and abdominal obesity) according to standard Chines...

Developmental venous anomaly associated ischemic stroke caused by minor head trauma: A case report
We report a case of ischemic stroke in the area of a DVA after minor head trauma in a patient with DVA and without a predisposition thrombosis. Patient concerns: A healthy 17-year-old male was admitted to the emergency room due to left hemiparesis, which was caused by a ball hitting the right side of his head during a soccer game. Diagnosis: Brain magnetic resonance (MR) susceptibility-weighted image showed several small veins draining to the central vein in the area from the right posterior putamen to the periventricular white matter. Interventions: We diagnosed the patient with an ischemic stroke associated with...

Impact of triglyceride playing on stroke severity correlated to bilirubin
Major lipids making effects on the occurrence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is well recognized, but their roles on stroke severity remain uncertain. To explore the exact roles of lipids playing on stroke severity and the possible mechanism, we conduct this observational study. Data was collected from patients with AIS from February 2008 to May 2012. The level of major lipids was compared among AIS groups with different severity and investigated the correlation. Also, the relationship existed between major lipids and bilirubin. Mechanism of major lipids playing on stroke severity was researched to determine if oxidative s...

Clinical efficacy and imaging evaluation of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator thrombolytic therapy in patients with wake up stroke: A randomized controlled trial
This study will be a single-blinded, randomized controlled trial with 2 parallel groups. It will be conducted at North China University of science and technology affiliated hospital. Discussion: There is no consistent conclusion about the pathogenesis of wake up stroke. Wake up stroke is more likely to manifest as small vessel disease. The incidence of wake up stroke patients is relatively high, and the effectiveness and safety of intravenous thrombolysis under the guidance of multimode imaging therapy in wake up stroke need to be further explored by prospective, large-scale studies. Trial registration: ClinicalTrial...

Hemichorea-hemiballismus as the initial manifestation of symptomatic middle cerebral artery dissection: A case report
Conclusion: Prompt recognition of acute onset hemichorea-hemiballismus as the manifestation of acute ischemic stroke in appropriate clinical setting may reduce diagnostic delay. Multiple imaging techniques including cerebral digital subtraction angiography and HR-MRI can be applied to diagnosis and further clarify the mechanism of stroke, which facilitate in selection of secondary prevention therapies.

The resolution of carotid arterial thrombus by oral anticoagulation after IV thrombolysis for chemotherapy-induced stroke: A case report
Rationale: Cancer-related stroke has been regarded as an emerging subtype of ischemic event. Acute treatment for this subtype may include the antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, or endovascular intervention. Patient concerns: A 63-year-old woman with sudden-onset right hemiparesis and conscious change was sent to our emergency department. The patient had underlying sigmoid adenocarcinoma and received chemotherapy FOLFIRI (FOL, folinic acid; F, fluorouracil; and IRI, irinotecan) with targeted therapy cetuximab following lower anterior resection since the diagnosis was made. Diagnoses: Brain magnetic resonance angio...

Bilateral pontine infarction with basilar artery fenestration: A case report
Rationale: Basilar artery (BA) fenestration is a congenital anomaly with duplicated BA, which can cause ischemic stroke. However, the stroke mechanism is not clearly verified in patients with BA fenestration. Patient concerns: Here, we report a case of 64-year-old man with well-controlled hypertension admitted with dysarthria, only. Diagnoses: Diffusion weighted image showed a bilateral symmetric pontine infarction sparing the midline. BA fenestration was observed from magnetic resonance angiography. Intervention: High-resolution magnetic resonance image (MRI) and 4D flow MRI was performed to verify the mechanis...

Association between periodontitis and bipolar disorder: A nationwide cohort study
Whether periodontitis is a risk factor for developing bipolar disorders (BD) has not been investigated. We aimed to determine whether periodontitis is associated with the subsequent development of BD and examine the risk factors for BD among patients with periodontitis. Using ambulatory and inpatient claims data from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD), we identified 12,337 patients who were aged at least 20 years and newly diagnosed with periodontitis between 2000 and 2004. The date of the first claim with a periodontitis diagnosis was set as the index date. For each patient with periodontitis, 4 subj...

Microcatheter infusion of bolus-dose tirofiban for acute ischemic stroke due to distal intracranial artery occlusion
The utility of endovascular thrombectomy for acute occlusion of the distal intracranial artery (A2/A3/M2/M3/P2/P3) is unclear, and aspiration and stent thrombectomy are associated with risk of bleeding. We analyzed patients with acute occlusion of the distal intracranial artery to assess the safety and efficacy of microcatheter-based tirofiban infusion. We retrospectively reviewed data of the endovascular thrombectomy registry of our center between January 2018 and June 2019. Patients with distal intracranial artery occlusion who underwent endovascular thrombectomy with microcatheter-based infusion of tirofiban were recru...
