Ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a well-recognized risk factor for ischemic stroke.
We aimed to investigate the impact of AF on in-hospital mortality of ischemic stroke patients and to identify parameters associated with intra-cardiac thrombogenic material.

The feasibility of using susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) in a clinical setting was assessed for quantifying leptomeningeal collateralization.

Discrepancy between perfusion- and diffusion-weighted images in ischemic stroke: A case report

Early ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction after thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke: A case report
We report a case of STEMI occurring 40 minutes after thrombolytic therapy for AIS and discuss the possible mechanisms and therapeutic approaches.

A 87-year-old woman with a history of arterial hypertension was admitted for acute onset of right-sided limb weakness 2 hours before arrival at the emergency department. Forty minutes after intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (i.v. rtPA) administration for AIS, STEMI occurred (signaled by a third-degree atrioventricular block).

Genetic polymorphisms of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C677T and risk of ischemic stroke in a southern Chinese Hakka population
In this study, a total of 1967 ischemic stroke patients and 2565 controls of Chinese Hakka ethnicity were recruited. The MTHFR C677T polymorphisms were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and microarray method. The risk of ischemic stroke was estimated by logistic regression analysis. The frequencies of CC, CT, and TT genotypes were 52.67% versus 55.63%, 40.31% versus 38.52%, and 7.02% versus 5.85% in patients with ischemic stroke versus controls, respectively. Relationship of atopic dermatitis with stroke and myocardial infarction: A meta-analysis

Beneficial effects of combined administration of Clopidogrel and Aspirin on the levels of proinflammatory cytokines, cardiac function, and prognosis in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: A comparative study

Taken together, the combination therapy of Clopidogrel and Aspirin provided a better improvement on both the cardiac function and outcome of STEMI patients in the Hebei province of China, with reduced inflammation as well.

Lithium intoxication presenting as altered consciousness and arrhythmia with cardiogenic shock: A case report
Rationale:
Lithium has been used to treat bipolar disorder. Lithium has a narrow therapeutic index, with a therapeutic level between 0.6 and 1.5 mEq/L. The possible complications of lithium overdose include altered mental status, hand tremor, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizure, syncope, and arrhythmia. Lithium intoxication can be fatal and is difficult to diagnose in patients without a history of lithium intake. The occurrence of serious cardiac arrhythmias is rare in lithium intoxication.

Rationale and design of a randomized trial of early intensive blood pressure lowering on cerebral perfusion parameters in thrombolysed acute ischemic stroke patients

Efficacy and safety of direct aspiration versus stent-retriever for recanalization in acute cerebral infarction: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions:
The results support that the direct aspiration technique for those acute ischemic stroke patients may have better functional outcomes, less procedure related-adverse events and a tendency of faster revascularization time as compared to the stent-retriever thrombectomy, with a similar successful recanalization rate. However, major limitations of current evidence (mainly from retrospective and observational studies and a small number of patients population) indicate a need for adequately powered, multicenter randomized controlled trials (RCT) to answer this question.

Acute vertigo and sensorineural hearing loss from infarction of the vestibulocochlear nerve: A case report
We present a case illustrating a rare but significant finding of vestibulocochlear nerve infarction revealed by DWI-MRI. Prompt imaging protocol enabled the detection of significant findings in this patient with acute unilateral audiovestibulopathy. Clinicians should be aware of the vestibulocochlear nerve and labyrinth on MRI in patients with cerebellar stroke.
