Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on stroke severity and mortality in the south-east of Santiago, Chile
Background and purpose: Chile has been one of the most affected countries by the COVID-19 pandemic, with one of the highest case rates per population. This has affected the epidemiological behaviour of various pathologies. We analyze the impact of the pandemic on the number of admissions due to stroke, its severity and mortality in Santiago, Chile.Methods: a multicenter observational study based on the records of the 3 hospitals of the South East health service in Santiago, Chile. We recorded the number of patients admitted for ischemic stroke between 01 January 2020 and 30 June 2020.

Short- and Long-term Survival after Stroke in Hospitalized Patients in Chile: A Nationwide 5-Year Study
Conclusions: Short- and long-term survival after ischemic stroke was heterogeneous by geographic regions and type of health insurance, regardless age and sex were the strongest predictors. This suggests an impact of socioeconomic factors and access to acute management of strokes on survival.

Long-term Adherence to National Guidelines for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study in a Public Hospital in Chile
Conclusions: The observed significant decrease in adherence to oral anticoagulation in patients with cardioembolic stroke suggests a need for the implementation of specific strategies to achieve the desired secondary prevention goals in these patients. Future research into the evaluation of other factors that could be associated with the lack of adherence to these guidelines, measurements of therapeutic goals, and new therapeutic strategies that are easier to use and that are associated with less risk could improve the prognosis of these patients.
