Severely Disturbed Sleep in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke on Stroke Units: A Pilot Study
Conclusion: We show that sleep is severely disturbed in patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted to stroke units. Larger studies are needed to clarify associations between deprivation of deep sleep and secondary deterioration.

Autotitrating Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure in Large Vessel Steno-Occlusive Stroke Patients With Suspected Sleep Apnea: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Study
Conclusions: In this prematurely terminated trial, auto-BPAP was safe but did not show an effect on short-term clinical outcomes in selected ischemic stroke patients. “I Give It Everything for an Hour Then I Sleep for Four.” The Experience of Post-stroke Fatigue During Outpatient Rehabilitation Including the Perspectives of Carers: A Qualitative Study
ConclusionDespite engaging in outpatient rehabilitation, stroke survivors largely learnt to manage fatigue independent of healthcare professionals. Carers often facilitated learning, monitoring rehabilitation, daily routines and fatigue exacerbation. Conversely, family could be dismissive of fatigue and possess unrealistic expectations. Post-stroke fatigue must be considered by clinicians when delivering outpatient rehabilitation to stroke survivors. ConclusionCircadian syndrome was associated with the risk of stroke. Particularly, we should pay more close attention to the risk of stroke in those populations who were female, non-Hispanic whites, had the symptoms of elevated waist circumference or short sleep.

Self-reported cognitive and psychiatric symptoms at 3 months predict single-item measures of fatigue and daytime sleep 12 months after ischemic stroke
ConclusionSelf-reported cognitive and psychiatric symptoms at 3 months predict increased daytime sleep and fatigue at 12 months. This highlights the relevance of monitoring cognitive and psychiatric symptoms in the subacute phase post-stroke. However, future research using validated measures of self-reported symptoms are needed to further explore these relationships.

Passive Properties of the Wrist and Fingers Following Chronic Hemiparetic Stroke: Interlimb Comparisons in Persons With and Without a Clinical Treatment History That Includes Botulinum Neurotoxin
Conclusion: Our results suggest that neural impairments that follow chronic, hemiparetic stroke do not lead to passive mechanical changes within the wrist and finger muscles. Rather, consistent with animal studies, the data points to potential adverse effects of BoNT on passive muscle properties post-stroke, which warrant further consideration.

Associations of sleep apnea risk and oxygen desaturation indices with cerebral small vessel disease burden in patients with stroke
ConclusionIn patients with TIA/minor stroke, high OSA-risk was associated with a greater CSVD burden. Oxygen desaturation indices (ODI and DesDur) rather than AHI were independently associated with global CSVD burden, indicating that longer and more severe desaturations may contribute to the pathogenesis of CSVD.

Relationship Between Sleep Apnea and Coronary Artery Calcium in Patients With Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion: Our findings indicate a relationship between coronary atherosclerotic burden measured by the CAC score and the severity of sleep apnea. Performing polysomnography could be useful for investigating the severity of hidden coronary artery disease among these patients.

Patient Reported Outcomes Measurements Information System in Stroke Patients in Full and Shortened Format
Conclusion: PROMIS better reflects the overall health status of stroke patients beyond functional outcome as measured by the mRS. Simplification of the questionnaire with a single question per PROMIS domain could potentially replace the full questionnaire, but needs further validation.

Identification of Risk Factors for Stroke in China: A Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies
This study aimed to identify independent risk factors for first occurrence of stroke in Chinese individuals based on prospective cohort studies. Forty prospective cohort studies assessing 1,984,552 individuals were selected for the final meta-analysis. Efficacy and safety of acupuncture on sleep quality for post-stroke insomnia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionAcupuncture could improve sleep quality, has long-term efficacy and without serious adverse events. However, the findings should be treated with caution owing to the existence of methodological quality issues. More studies with rigorous designs are warranted for validation and explored the safety of acupuncture.
