Sleep Duration Is Associated With Subclinical Carotid Plaque Burden
CONCLUSIONS: The association between long sleep and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis may explain prior associations between long sleep and stroke.PMID:37470161 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.122.041967

Association of Dental Infections with Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis
CONCLUSION: We report significant associations between mild-moderate tooth loss, severe tooth loss and severe PD with <50% ICAS as well as an association between gingivitis and ≥50% ICAS. We did not find an association between dental caries and ICAS.PMID:37121226 | DOI:10.1159/000530829

Association between carotid intima media thickness and acute ischemic stroke at an Indonesian tertiary referral hospital
CONCLUSIONS: AIS was associated with atherosclerosis, on the basis of CIMT measurements, according to age, BMI, sex, T2DM, hypertension, smoking status, dyslipidemia, socioeconomic status, and education level in the Indonesian population.PMID:36852246 | PMC:PMC9957772 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtumed.2022.12.008

Carotid atherosclerosis in people of European, South Asian and African Caribbean ethnicity in the Southall and Brent revisited study (SABRE)
CONCLUSION: Prevalence of carotid artery atherosclerotic plaques varies by ethnicity, independent of risk factors. Lower plaque prevalence in in AC is consistent with their lower risk of CHD but not their higher risk of stroke. Higher cIMT in AC may be explained by risk factors. The similarity of plaque burden in SA and EA despite established differences in ASCVD risk casts some doubt on the utility of carotid ultrasound as a means of assessing risk across these ethnic groups.PMID:36762303 | PMC:PMC9902363 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.1002820

Association between dietary inflammatory index and atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease in U.S. adults
CONCLUSION: Our study revealed a positive and non-linearly association between DII and ASCVD in U.S. adults. This relationship was more pronounced in females. The findings provide a reference for future research and diet recommendations.PMID:36687707 | PMC:PMC9849765 | DOI:10.3389/fnut.2022.1044329

Baseline Serum Biomarkers of Inflammation and Subsequent Visit-to-Visit Blood Pressure Variability: A Post-hoc Analysis of MESA
CONCLUSION: A higher level of serum IL-6 was associated with increased subsequent BPV in a large multiracial cohort. Further investigation is needed to better understand the relationship between chronic inflammation and BPV, as the causality of inflammatory markers in the blood pressure mechanism remains to be uncertain.PMID:36315490 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpac122

Differential associations between pre-diabetes, diabetes and stroke occurrence among West Africans
CONCLUSION: Pre-DM is strongly and independently associated with stroke in Africans. Improving glycemic control through screening, healthy lifestyle and pharmacotherapy at a population level may be strategic in reducing the rising burden of stroke in Africa.PMID:36194925 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2022.106805

Health-related quality of life and associated factors among hypertensive patients
CONCLUSIONS: Hypertensives had low HRQOL scores in all domains. Factors affecting their HRQOL should be taken into account when treating these patients.PMID:36027221 | DOI:10.1097/01.hjh.0000837808.51473.2f
