Major Depression as a Predictor of Poor Long-Term Survival in a Brazilian Stroke Cohort (Study of Stroke Mortality and Morbidity in Adults) EMMA study
The influence of poststroke depression on long-term survival is poorly investigated. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the influence of major depression disorder (MDD) on long-term survival in the participants from The Study of Stroke Mortality and Morbidity in Adults (EMMA Study) in São Paulo, Brazil.

Intracranial Atherosclerosis and Poststroke Depression in Chinese Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) is a common etiology of ischemic stroke in Chinese patients, probably leading to regional hypoperfusion in the brain. The purpose of this prospective study was to investigate the association between ICAS and poststroke depression in Chinese patients with ischemic stroke.

Depression Is Associated with a Higher Risk of Death among Stroke Survivors
Poststroke depression is common, affecting approximately 1 in 3 stroke survivors. We aimed to evaluate the association between depression and mortality in adults with and without prior stroke.

Patterns and Predictors of Depression Treatment among Stroke Survivors with Depression in Ambulatory Settings in the United States
Despite the importance of treating depression, little is known regarding the current practice pattern of depression treatment among older adults with stroke and depression. We used national survey data from ambulatory settings to examine the depression treatment patterns and predictors among stroke survivors in the United States (US).

Reduced Serum Adiponectin Level and Risk of Poststroke Depression in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Background and Aims: Decreased adiponectin  (APN) level has been indicated to be associated with depression. In the present study, we aimed to investigate whether serum APN could predict poststroke depression (PSD) at 3 months in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Method: Patients with first-ever ischemic stroke and hospitalized within 24 hours of symptoms onset were enrolled prospectively during March 2017 to September 2017. Serum APN level was measured at admission by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Effect of Informational Support on Anxiety in Family Caregivers of Patients with Hemiplegic Stroke
Brain stroke is the most common cause of permanent disability worldwide and has a serious negative impact on the lives of patients and their families.1,2 Due to the unexpected and sudden occurrence of stroke, the family members of the patients inflicted with this condition are confronted with adverse consequences. Accordingly, they should adapt themselves to this condition and its associated complications. Moreover, they should play the role of a caregiver, which causes shock, anxiety, and depression in the patient family.

Post-Stroke Depression in Patients with Large Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Post-stroke depression (PSD) is relatively under-studied in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), the most disabling form of stroke.1 The highest incidence of PSD occurs within the first year after ICH, estimated at 15 –23%, and may decline over time.2–4

Efficacy of Fluoxetine for Post-Ischemic Stroke Depression in Tanzania
Post-stroke fluoxetine trials are primarily conducted in high-income countries. We characterize post-ischemic stroke depression in fluoxetine-treated and -untreated study participants in urban Tanzania.

Risk of suicide among stroke survivors in the United States
Stroke is the largest cause of disability and the 5th leading cause of death in the United States. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States. However, little is known about the risk of suicide among people with a prior stroke.

A Novel Useful Tool of Computerized Touch Panel–Type Screening Test for Evaluating Cognitive Function of Chronic Ischemic Stroke Patients
Cognitive and affective impairments are important non-motor features of ischemic stroke (IS) related to white-matter hyperintensity, including periventricular hyperintensity (PVH). To confirm the usefulness of a novel computerized touch panel–type screening test, we investigated cognitive and affective functioning among 142 IS patients and 105 age-and gender-matched normal control subjects. Assessment using the mini-mental state examination, Hasegawa Dementia Scale-Revised, and frontal assessment battery revealed reduced cognitive function in IS patients, with the most severe reduction exhibited by cardiogenic embolism p...

Psychiatric Symptoms in Patients with Stroke: A Six-Month Follow-Up Study
We read with interest the paper by Al-Busaidi and Alamri,1 wherein the authors found that 18.4% and 23.7% of poststroke patients, respectively, showed clinically significant anxiety and depression. We conducted a similar study with a sample of poststroke patients, but considering as predictors of future psychiatric illness also the clinical features associated with stroke.

Reply: Psychiatric Symptoms in Patients with Stroke: A Six-Month Follow-Up Study
In their study, Buoli et al examined the prevalence and predictors of several poststroke neuropsychiatric disorders in a group of 36 stroke patients from Italy using 9 different rating scales. Unlike our study, the presence and severity of affective disorders, namely depressive and anxiety symptoms, were assessed using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y).
