Longitudinal assessment of anxiety/depression rates and their related predictive factors in acute ischemic stroke patients: A 36-month follow-up study
This study aimed at investigating the longitudinal changes of poststroke anxiety/depression rates, and their potential risk factors in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. A total of 250 first diagnosis of AIS patients were enrolled and followed for 36 months. Anxiety/depression of patients were assessed using hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) at month (M) 0 (M0) and then every 3 months till M36. During 36-month follow-up, both HADS-anxiety score (from 6.9 ± 3.1 at M0 to 8.0 ± 3.5 at M36) and anxiety rate (from 41.2% at M0 to 54.0% at M36) (both P  .05) displayed an upward trend with tim...

Effect of traditional Chinese medicine-based rehabilitation nursing combined with scalp acupuncture on negative emotions and quality of life of patients with stroke: A randomized controlled trial
This study aimed to analyze the effect of traditional Chinese medicine-based rehabilitation nursing combined with scalp acupuncture (TCMRN + SA) on negative emotions and the quality of life of patients with stroke. Methods: 102 patients with stroke admitted to The First People’s Hospital of Huzhou from September 2019 to December 2020 were included in this study using the convenience sampling method and split into an observation group and a control group at random (n = 51 in each group). Individuals in the control group received TCMRN, whereas patients in the observation group received TCMRN + SA. Furthermore, the ...

Efficacy of escitalopram oxalate for patients with post-stroke depression
This retrospective study investigated the efficacy and safety of escitalopram oxalate (ESO) for the treatment of post-stroke depression (PSD). A total of 115 patients with PSD were included in this study. A total of 65 patients underwent ESO (Intervention group). A total of 50 patients received acupressure (Control group). The outcome measurements included Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS). In addition, we also recorded the adverse events in this study. At the end of 8-week treatment, ESO showed greater efficacy in depression, measured by MADRS (P

The association of different types of cerebral infarction with post-stroke depression and cognitive impairment
The aim of this study was to investigate post-stroke depression (PSD) and cognitive impairments in patients with different types of cerebral infarction. A total of 110 patients with cerebral infarction treated in our hospital from January 2015 to February 2016 were included in present study. Forty-seven patients were PSD patients and 63 patients were non-PSD patients. The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) were employed to assess depression and cognition of patients Among PSD patients, the proportion of patients with partial anterior circulation infarction (PACI, 68.75%) was ...

The effectiveness of acupuncture therapy in patients with post-stroke depression: An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Background: To assess the effectiveness of acupuncture in patients with post-stroke depression (PSD). Methods: The Cochrane Library, CINAHL, EMBASE, PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and 4 Chinese databases were electronically searched for articles published between January 1, 2010 and May 31, 2018. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of acupuncture on PSD were included. The quality of all included trials was assessed according to guidelines published by the Cochrane Collaboration. Results: Seven trials compared the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy with that of control in alleviating the...

The efficacy of transcranial alternating current stimulation for treating post-stroke depression: Study Protocol Clinical Trial (SPIRIT Compliant)
In this study, we will assess the efficacy and safety of tACS for treating PSD and explore its effect on gamma and beta-oscillations involving in emotional regulation. Methods: The prospective study is an 8-week, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Seventy eligible participants with mild to moderate PSD aged between 18 years and 70 years will be recruited and randomly assigned to either active tACS intervention group or sham group. Daily 40-minute, 77.5-Hz, 15-mA sessions of active or sham tACS targeting the forehead and both mastoid areas on weekdays for 4 consecutive weeks (week 4), and an additional 4...

Anxiety faintly and depression remarkably correlate with recurrence in acute ischemic stroke patients: A study with 3-year longitude evaluation and follow-up
Clinical value of anxiety and depression in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is rarely studied. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore longitudinal changes of anxiety and depression, as well as their correlation with recurrence in AIS. A total of 120 AIS patients and 120 controls were enrolled in the study. Furthermore, comparison of the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) score or rate between AIS and controls was determined by Mann–Whitney U test or Chi-square test. In AIS patients, change of HADS scores or linear trend of anxiety and depression rate over time were determined by Friedman test or Mantel-Haens...

The role of rehabilitation and vitamin D supplementation on motor and psychological outcomes in poststroke patients
Post-Stroke depression affects between 12% and 72% of patients who have suffered a stroke. The association between low serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) and increased risk of depression is reported in both stroke and non-stroke patients. Similarly, high 25(OH) D levels might be associated with greater functional improvement during rehabilitation program. We wanted to investigate the effects of an intensive rehabilitation on poststroke outcomes. We wondered if the daily rehabilitation of motor and cognitive functions could also have an effect on mood and functional abilities in addition to or as an alternati...
