Association of metabolic syndrome with carotid atherosclerosis in low-income Chinese individuals: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Among individuals aged 45 years or more, we confirmed MetS and its components were associated with carotid atherosclerosis in a low-income population of northern China. The presence of MetS and a higher number of MetS components exacerbated the risk of carotid atherosclerosis; among the five MetS components, high blood pressure was associated with the greatest risk. Targeted atherosclerosis prevention and intervention should include identification and treatment of MetS, especially high blood pressure.PMID:36061552 | PMC:PMC9437543 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.943281

A Potential Strategy for Atherosclerosis Prevention in Modernizing China - Hyperhomocysteinemia, MTHFR C677T Polymorphism and Air Pollution (PM2.5) on Atherogenesis in Chinese Adults
CONCLUSION: HC and PM2.5 pollution but not MTHFR genotype were both related to carotid IMT, independent of other traditional risk factors. This has potential implications in dietary and AP strategies for atherosclerosis prevention in China.PMID:36806868 | DOI:10.1007/s12603-023-1889-x
