Impact of left ventricular outflow tract calcification in patients undergoing transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation
CONCLUSIONS: In patients undergoing TAVI, the presence of significant LVOT calcification is common and associated with worse short-term clinical and functional outcomes as well as higher one-year mortality rates compared to patients w/o LVOT calcification.PMID:34658340 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-21-00464

Sapien 3 Ultra balloon-expandable transcatheter aortic valve: in-hospital and 30-day results from the multicentre S3U registry.
CONCLUSIONS: This first multicenter international experience of transfemoral TAVI with the SAPIEN 3 Ultra transcatheter heart valve shows excellent in-hospital and 30-day clinical outcomes. PMID: 31763985 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Silent Valsalva thrombus between the native Valsalva and balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve: multicentre Japanese registry analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Valsalva thrombus was detected in 8.9% of patients following balloon-expandable THV implantation and was common in the LCC, but it did not increase the risk of adverse events after TAVI. PMID: 31746754 [PubMed - in process]

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation with the 34 mm self-expanding CoreValve Evolut R: initial experience in 101 patients from a multicenter registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Initial experience with the new self-expanding CoreValve Evolut R® 34 mm valve is characterized by high procedural success, excellent hemodynamic performance and a low early complication rate. PMID: 29808820 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In-vitro hydrodynamic and acute clinical performance of a novel self-expanding THV in various surgical bioprostheses.
CONCLUSIONS: The NVT AllegraTM performed well for in-vitro ViV-TAVI analyses. Hereby, the AllegraTM combined the benefits of supra-annular self-expanding prostheses with regards to EOA and mean gradients with low amounts of regurgitation. Additionally, clinical implantation of the 23mm AllegraTM for the treatment of degenerated surgical bioprostheses was feasible and resulted in favorable hemodynamics. Real-world experience using the ACURATE neo ™ prosthesis: 30-day outcomes of 1000 patients enrolled in the SAVI-TF registry.
CONCLUSIONS: In this initial experience, treatment with the ACURATE neoTM prosthesis resulted in excellent clinical outcomes with very low complication rates. PMID: 29131801 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Very low pacemaker rate following ACURATE neo transcatheter heart valve implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: With careful selection of the balloon and the ACURATE neo prosthesis size, very low rates of new conduction disorders and permanent pacemakers may be achieved without increasing the amount of paravalvular regurgitation. PMID: 28870877 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Thirty-day outcomes in patients at intermediate risk for surgery from the SAPIEN 3 European approval trial.
CONCLUSIONS: TF-TAVI using the SAPIEN 3 THV in patients at intermediate risk for surgery is associated with a very low risk of death and complications, including new pacemakers and paravalvular leaks. Although compelling, these initial results are being confirmed in larger global studies before expanding the indications for TAVI in severe aortic stenosis. PMID: 27290682 [PubMed - in process]

Stroke prevention in valvular heart disease: from the procedure to long-term management.
Authors: Giustino G, Dangas GD Abstract Stroke in patients with valvular heart disease undergoing transcatheter intervention is relatively rare but associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Risks vary according to the underlying valve disease and proposed procedure. While major improvements have been made in developing and understanding the technical factors associated with intra- and peri-procedural stroke, uncertainty exists regarding the optimal antithrombotic management strategy after transcatheter heart valve intervention and the utility of routine cerebral embolic protection. Further clinical studi...

Thirty-day VARC-2 and performance data of a new self-expanding transcatheter aortic heart valve.
CONCLUSIONS: In this first-in-human study, the feasibility of implantation of the BIOVALVE system and its re-sheathing functionality was demonstrated, and short-term safety data were encouraging. Larger studies are required to confirm the performance of the device. PMID: 25983028 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
