Efficacy of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors in univentricular congenital heart disease: the SV ‐INHIBITION study design
ConclusionsThe SV ‐INHIBITION study aims to answer the question whether PDE5 inhibitors should be prescribed in patients with an SV. This trial has been built focusing on the three levels of research defined by the World Health Organization: disability (exercise tolerance), deficit (SV function), and handicap (qual ity of life).

Right ventricular mechanical pattern in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery: a predictor of post ‐operative dysfunction?
ConclusionsMVR induces a significant shift in the RV mechanical pattern. Advanced indices of RV mechanics are associated with invasively measured parameters of RV contractility and may predict post ‐operative RVD.

A novel nomogram to predict all ‐cause readmission or death risk in Chinese elderly patients with heart failure
ConclusionsWe developed accurate and easy ‐to‐use nomograms to predict all‐cause readmission or death in Chinese elderly patients with HF. The nomograms will assist in reducing the all‐cause readmission and mortality rates.

Risk assessment in PAH using quantitative CMR tricuspid regurgitation: relation to heart catheterization
ConclusionsA clear trend towards worse outcome with larger TRV or TR% was shown; however, the number of events was insufficient for significant outcome differences. Prognostic value of quantitative TR should be investigated in a larger multicentre cohort. Effective RV ejection fraction may be considered an improved measure of RV function in PAH.

Ethnic differences in atrial fibrillation among patients with heart failure in Asia
ConclusionsAmong patients with HF across Asia, clinical correlates and adverse outcomes associated with AF are similar across ethnicities; however, there are striking ethnic variations in the prevalence of AF that are not accounted for by known risk factors.

Leucocyte count predicts cardiovascular risk in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: insights from TOPCAT Americas
ConclusionsLeucocyte count>7100 cells/ μL was independently associated with adverse clinical outcomes in HFpEF patients from TOPCAT‐Americas. These results were primarily driven by the HF hospitalization outcome but were also accompanied by an excess of non‐fatal MI. Further research is needed to define the mechanisms underlying our findings and their prognostic implications.

Biventricular imaging markers to predict outcomes in non ‐compaction cardiomyopathy: a machine learning study
ConclusionsOur findings show the importance of biventricular assessment to detect the severity of this cardiomyopathy and to plan for early clinical intervention. In addition, this study shows that even patients with normal LV function and negative late gadolinium enhancement had MACE. ML is a promising tool for analysing a large set of parameters to stratify and predict prognosis in LVNC patients.

Temporary right ventricular circulatory support following right ventricular infarction: results of a groin ‐free approach
ConclusionsWe show that groin ‐free, percutaneous implantation of the ProtekDuo® cannula is a feasible and safe tool for TCS in acute RHF post‐MI. This approach provides the advantages of percutaneous implantation including complete mobilization and non‐surgical bedside explantation, as well as the option for adding an ox ygenator to the t‐RVAD circuit.

Mortality risk in dilated cardiomyopathy: the accuracy of heart failure prognostic models and dilated cardiomyopathy ‐tailored prognostic model
ConclusionsAn analysis of various HF prognostic models found them to be suboptimal for DCM patients. A self ‐developed DCM prognostic model showed improved performance over the nine other models studied. However, further validation of the prognostic model in different DCM populations is required.

Cost ‐effectiveness of empagliflozin in the UK in an EMPA‐REG OUTCOME subgroup with type 2 diabetes and heart failure
ConclusionsThis analysis suggests that adding empagliflozin to SoC in HF patients with T2D constitutes a cost ‐effective use of UK healthcare resources and may provide long‐term health benefits to patients.

Relative impact of bleedings over ischaemic events in patients with heart failure: insights from the CARDIONOR registry
ConclusionsIn HF outpatients, antithrombotics are widely used. Bleeding occurs at a stable rate of 1.2% annually (as frequent as ischaemic events) and is associated with a dramatic increase in mortality (at least as severe as ischaemic events). Most events occurred in patients receiving anticoagulation. Knowledge of these findings may help physicians to manage antithrombotics in HF patients.

Safety of transradial and transfemoral left ventricular compared with transfemoral right ventricular endomyocardial biopsy
ConclusionsTransradial LV ‐EMB is a safe procedure for experienced radial operators and non‐inferior compared with transfemoral LV‐EMB and RV‐EMB. An accurate peri‐procedural and post‐procedural monitoring and follow‐up care should be recommended for all patients undergoing this procedure in order to identify p otential complications.

Swollen heart in COVID ‐19 patients who progress to critical illness: a perspective from echo‐cardiologists
ConclusionsPericardial effusion and increased ventricular mass in COVID ‐19 might indicate a swollen heart. Both left and right heart dysfunction and a reduced cardiac index may lead to an increased risk of mortality. Clinicians should pay special attention to cardiac haemodynamic disorders in critical patients with COVID‐19.

Prognostic value of the H2FPEF score in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation
ConclusionsThe H2FPEF score serves as an independent predictor of adverse CV and heart failure outcome among TAVI patients with preserved EF. A high H2FPEF score is associated with the presence of paradoxical low ‐flow, low‐gradient AS, the HFpEF in patients with AS. By identifying patients in advanced stages of HFpEF, the H2FPEF score might be useful as a risk prediction tool in patients with preserved EF scheduled for TAVI.
