Resistive and Pulsatile Arterial Hemodynamics and Cardiovascular Events: The Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Heart Failure
Conclusions Greater total arterial compliance, manifest by higher stroke volume/pulse pressure is associated with a reduced incidence of subsequent CVE. In contrast, SVR was not independently associated with CVE in subjects free of overt cardiovascular disease at baseline. These findings support the concept that alternations in the large conduit vessels, rather than changes in microvascular resistance, are primarily related to incident cardiovascular disease.

Prognostic Implications of Left Ventricular Dyssynchrony for Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Asymptomatic Women and Men: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Heart Failure
Conclusions In an asymptomatic cohort, greater LV dyssynchrony determined by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging predicts adverse cardiovascular outcome in women but not in men. Clinical Trial Registration URL: http://clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00005487.

Beta-Blocker Use Is Associated With Impaired Left Atrial Function in Hypertension Hypertension
BackgroundImpaired left atrial (LA) mechanical function is present in hypertension and likely contributes to various complications, including atrial arrhythmias, stroke, and heart failure. Various antihypertensive drug classes exert differential effects on central hemodynamics and left ventricular function. However, little is known about their effects on LA function. Methods and ResultsWe studied 212 subjects with hypertension and without heart failure or atrial fibrillation. LA strain was measured from cine steady‐state free‐precession cardiac MRI images using feature‐tracking algorithms. In multivariable models adju...
