One ‐year results of the first‐in‐man study investigating the Atrial Flow Regulator for left atrial shunting in symptomatic heart failure patients: the PRELIEVE study
ConclusionsImplantation of the AFR device in HF patients was feasible. No shunt occlusion, stroke or new right HF was observed during the 1 ‐year follow‐up, with clinical improvements in certain patients.

Concomitant latent pulmonary vascular disease leads to impaired global cardiac performance in HFpEF
ConclusionsLatent PVD is a feature of HFpEF and is associated with impaired RV functional reserve, global diastolic filling and LV-CI. This can be quantified by CMR and used to identify patients likely to benefit from IASD implantation.

Effects of haemodynamically atrio ‐ventricular optimized His bundle pacing on heart failure symptoms and exercise capacity: the His Optimized Pacing Evaluated for Heart Failure (HOPE‐HF) randomized, double‐blind, cross‐over trial
ConclusionHis bundle pacing did not increase peak oxygen uptake but, under double-blind conditions, significantly improved quality of life and was symptomatically preferred by the clear majority of patients. Ventricular pacing delivered via the His bundle did not adversely impact ventricular function during the 6  months.

Concomitant latent pulmonary vascular disease leads to impaired global cardiac performance in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
ConclusionsLatent PVD is a feature of HFpEF and is associated with impaired RV functional reserve, global diastolic filling and LV-CI. This can be quantified by CMR and used to identify patients likely to benefit from IASD implantation.

Ventricular Stiffening and Chamber Contracture in Heart Failure with Higher Ejection Fraction
ConclusionMost pathophysiologic differences in patients with HFpEF and higher EF are related to smaller heart size, increased LV diastolic stiffness, and leftward shift in the EDPVR. These findings may help to explain the absence of efficacy for neurohormonal antagonists in this group and raise a new hypothesis, that interventions to stimulate eccentric LV remodeling and enhance diastolic capacitance may be beneficial for patients with HFpEF and EF in the higher range.

Impact of multimorbidity on mortality in HFrEF: Which comorbidities matter most? – An analysis of PARADIGM‐HF and ATMOSPHERE
ConclusionsIn HF, the impact of multimorbidity differed at the individual-patient and population level, depending on the prevalence of and the risk related to each comorbidity, and the interaction between individual comorbidities. Patients with co-existent PAD and stroke were at greatest individual risk whereas, from a population perspective, co-existent CKD and hypertension mattered mostThis article is protected by copyright. Impact of multimorbidity on mortality in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: which comorbidities matter most? An analysis of PARADIGM ‐HF and ATMOSPHERE

Prediction of long-term outcome of cardiac resynchronization therapy by acute pressure-volume loop measurements
Conclusion Invasive assessment of acute haemodynamics is a reliable tool to determine individual response to CRT. An acute increase in SW predicts long-term response to CRT with a higher accuracy than an acute increase in dP/dtmax, baseline QRS duration, and degree of LV mechanical dyssynchrony.

Gender-related differences in hospitalized heart failure patients
Conclusions Age-adjusted mortality rates of male and female hospitalized HF patients are similarly high. Predictors of mortality, however, are gender distinctive, and these measures may allow a better identification of high-risk HF patients.

Subepicardial dysfunction leads to global left ventricular systolic impairment in patients with limb girdle muscular dystrophy 2I
Conclusions The loss of torsion with preservation of circumferential and longitudinal strain in LGMD2I is a unique finding and suggests subepicardial dysfunction with abnormal transmission of force across the cardiac wall.

Known and missing left ventricular ejection fraction and survival in patients with heart failure: a MAGGIC meta-analysis report
Conclusion Missing EF is common. The short- and long-term outcome of patients with HF-mEF is poor and they exhibit different co-morbidity profiles and treatment patterns compared with patients with known EF. HF patients with missing EF represent a high risk group.
