Prediction of Incident Atrial Fibrillation According to Gender in Patients with Ischemic Stroke From a Nationwide Cohort
The CHA2DS2-VASc score may identify patients at higher risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) following ischemic stroke (IS) among patients without known AF. We compared gender-related differences in items from CHA2DS2-VASc score and their relationship with AF occurrence after IS. Association of Frailty Status on the Causes and Outcomes of Patients Admitted With Cardiovascular Disease
Data are limited about the contemporary association between frailty and the causes and outcomes of patients admitted with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Using the US National Inpatient Sample, CVD admissions of interest (acute myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, atrial fibrillation (AF), heart failure, pulmonary embolism, cardiac arrest, and hemorrhagic stroke) were stratified by Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS). Logistic regression was used to determine adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of in-hospital mortality among different groups with frailty.

Outcome of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Following Recent Surgery
The objective of this study was to determine clinical outcomes of patients undergoing PCI within 7 days after a surgical procedure. Comparison of In-hospital Outcomes of Patients With-vs-Without Ischemic Cardiomyopathy Undergoing Left Ventricular Assist Device Placement
The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of heart failure (HF) etiology (ischemic cardiomyopathy (IC) vs. non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NIC)) on in-hospital outcomes in patients undergoing left ventricular assist device (LVAD) placement using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database. We identified patients who underwent LVAD placement from 2011 to 2014. The primary endpoint was the effect of ICM on in-hospital mortality. Comparison of Complications and In-Hospital Mortality in Takotsubo (Apical Ballooning/Stress) Cardiomyopathy versus Acute Myocardial Infarction
There are limited data on the incidence of complications and in-hospital outcomes, among patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), as compared to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). From 2007-2014, a retrospective cohort of TC was compared to AMI using the National Inpatient Sample database. Complications were classified as acute heart failure, ventricular arrhythmic, cardiac arrest, high-grade atrioventricular block, mechanical, vascular/access, pericardial, stroke and acute kidney injury. Optimization of GRACE Risk Stratification by N-Terminal Pro-B-Type Natriuretic Peptide Combined with D-dimer in Patients with Non-ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction
We aimed to explore the utility of multiple biomarkers with GRACE risk stratification for non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). A total of 1357 patients diagnosed with NSTEMI were enrolled in this study at multiple medical centers in Tianjin, China. The outcomes were 1-year all-cause death and major adverse cardiac events (MACE: all-cause death, hospital admission for unstable angina, hospital admission for heart failure, non-fatal recurrent myocardial infarction, and stroke). C-index, NRI and IDI were calculated to verify that the biomarkers improve the predictive accuracy of the GRACE score.

Why Are Cardiologists Not Prescribing the New Diabetes Medications?
Randomized clinical trials and guidelines from multiple societies have established significant cardiovascular (CV) outcome benefits of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Among patients with T2D, those with known CV disease and those at high risk who are receiving metformin have lower risks of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke if they are treated with GLP-1RAs, and those treated with SGLT2is have reduced risks of hospital admission for heart failure, CV mortality, and all-cause mortality.
