The enigmatic role of VCAM-1 expressed by macrophages in mitochondrial metabolism and atherosclerosis
CONCLUSION: We conclude that macrophage-specific VCAM-1 augments mitochondrial biogenesis and DNA oxidation via Cmpk2. Oxidized mitochondrial DNA in plaque macrophages increases inflammation via Sting, resulting in exacerbation of atherosclerosis.PMID:35557156 | DOI:10.1096/fasebj.2022.36.S1.R6141

New Approaches for Enhancement of the Efficacy of Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Exosomes in Cardiovascular Diseases
Tissue Eng Regen Med. 2022 Jul 22. doi: 10.1007/s13770-022-00469-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a major health concern worldwide, where mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) therapy gives great promise in their management through their regenerative and paracrine actions. In recent years, many studies have shifted from the use of transplanted stem cells to their secreted exosomes for the management of various CVDs and cardiovascular-related diseases including atherosclerosis, stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, peripheral arterial diseases, and pulmonary hypertension. In different m...

Clonal Hematopoiesis and the Heart: a Toxic Relationship
Curr Oncol Rep. 2023 Mar 15. doi: 10.1007/s11912-023-01398-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Clonal hematopoiesis (CH) refers to the expansion of hematopoietic stem cell clones and their cellular progeny due to somatic mutations, mosaic chromosomal alterations (mCAs), or copy number variants which naturally accumulate with age. CH has been linked to increased risk of blood cancers, but CH has also been linked to adverse cardiovascular outcomes.RECENT FINDINGS: A combination of clinical outcome studies and mouse models have offered strong evidence that CH mutations either correlate with or cause atheroscle...

Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases: From mechanisms to therapy
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 May 2;163:114817. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114817. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs) remain an intractable problem and have high morbidity and mortality worldwide, as well as substantial health and economic burdens, representing an urgent clinical need. In recent years, the focus of research has shifted from the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for transplantation to the use of their secretory exosomes (MSC-exosomes) for the treatment of numerous CVDs, including atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), ischemia/reperfusio...

Atherosclerosis on CT coronary angiography and risk of long-term cardiovascular events post liver transplantation
CONCLUSION: The standardized CAD-RADS classification on CTCA predicted the occurrence of cardiovascular outcomes following LT, with a potential to increase utilization of preventive cardiovascular therapies.PMID:37432891 | DOI:10.1097/LVT.0000000000000215
