Alternaria alternata challenge at the nasal mucosa results in eosinophilic inflammation and increased susceptibility to influenza virus infection
Conclusions and Clinical RelevanceRepetitive administration of A. alternata resulted in inflammation of the nasal mucosae and unanticipated morbidity and mortality in response to subsequent challenge with influenza virus. Interestingly, and in contrast to findings in the lower airways, eosinophils recruited to the nasal passages provided no protection against lethal infection. As increased susceptibility to influenza virus among individuals with rhinitis has been the subject of several clinical reports, this model may be used for further exploration of these observations. This article is protected by copyright. Prenatal maternal psychosocial stress and offspring's asthma and allergic disease: a systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionsExposure to prenatal maternal psychosocial stress was associated with increased risk, albeit modestly, of asthma and allergy in the offspring. The pronounced risk during the third trimester may represent cumulative stress exposure throughout pregnancy rather than trimester‐specific effect. Our findings may represent a causal effect or a result of inherent biases in studies, particularly residual confounding. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

The Use of Omalizumab in Allergen Immunotherapy
In conclusion, omalizumab used in conjunction with immunotherapy has shown promising results, especially in the reduction of adverse reactions. At this stage, larger, randomized, placebo‐controlled trials are needed to better identify those patients who would benefit the most from the addition of omalizumab to immunotherapy, as well as optimal dosing strategies and duration of treatment. Type III interferons are critical host factors that determine susceptibility to Influenza A viral infection in allergic nasal mucosa
ConclusionHigher susceptibility of the allergic nasal mucosa to IAV may depend on impairment of type III IFN induction, and type III IFN is a key mechanistic link between higher viral loads and control of IAV infection in allergic nasal mucosa. This article is protected by copyright. Filaggrin Mutations Increase Allergic Airway Disease in Childhood and Adolescence Through Interactions with Eczema and Aeroallergen Sensitization
ConclusionFLG‐LOF mutations are a significant risk factor for later childhood asthma and rhinitis. However, the pathway to asthma is only through early childhood eczema while a direct effect was observed for childhood rhinitis. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Zoonotic helminth exposure and risk of allergic diseases: a study of two generations in Norway
Conclusions & Clinical RelevanceZoonotic helminth exposure in Norway was less frequent in offspring than parents; however, Toxocara spp. seropositivity was associated with increased risk of allergic manifestations in the offspring generation, but not among parents. Changes in response to helminth exposure may provide insights into the increase in allergy incidence in affluent countries. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
