ConclusionsThe UNOS heart allocation policy change has resulted in decreased waitlist times and higher likelihood of transplant in patients supported with ECMO. Posttransplant 1 ‐year survival has remained comparable although absolute rates are lower.

ConclusionsPostoperative complications after cardiac surgery significantly impact outcomes that extend beyond the postoperative period. Stroke, renal failure, and pneumonia are particularly associated with poor long ‐term survival.

ConclusionsBased on our experience, ECMO can improve refractory ARDS due to COVID ‐19 in select patients. Proper control of bacterial infections during COVID‐19 immunomodulation therapy may be critical to improving survival.

Redo surgery for noninfective isolated mitral valve disease: Initial outcome and further follow ‐up compared to primary surgery
ConclusioniMVR for  noninfective reasons is infrequent and rare. Compared to primary surgery, redo's suffer mainly from bleeding-associated morbidity. This does not translate into prolonged hospital stay or inferior immediate or long-term outcomes. Redo mitral valve replacement can be performed at no significantly in creased surgical risk compared with first surgery and the results are particularly not limited by the surgery itself.

Predicting postoperative atrial fibrillation after myocardial revascularization without cardiopulmonary bypass: A retrospective cohort study
ConclusionOff ‐pump coronary artery bypass grafting proved a safe and effective procedure, with low postoperative atrial fibrillation occurrence, for myocardial revascularization. Chronic renal insufficiency and the use of venous‐origin graft solely proved to be independent predictor factors for PAOF.

Effects and outcomes of cardiac surgery in patients with cardiometabolic syndrome
ConclusionsPatients with CMS were more likely to present with increased comorbidities. Patients with CMS undergoing CABG were at risk for worse short ‐term secondary postoperative outcomes and reduced long‐term survival. The data supports the need for further investigation for risk reduction surrounding operative revascularization.

Mitral valve prosthesis choice in patients < 70 years: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis of 20 219 patients
ConclusionMechanical MVR in patients aged less than 70 years is associated with a lower risk of operative mortality as well as a 20% lower risk of long ‐term death and 65% lower risk of mitral valve reoperation but 60% greater risk of bleeding compared with bioMVR in matched or adjusted data.

Preoperative prealbumin does not impact outcomes after left ventricular assist device implantation
ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that lower prealbumin levels were not predictive of increased post ‐LVAD morbidity or mortality. Although an established marker of nutritional and inflammatory status, the role of prealbumin in patient selection or prognostication appears limited in LVAD patients.

A mortality risk score for heart transplants after contemporary ventricular assist device bridging
ConclusionsAmong patients bridged to OHT with newer generation centrifugal LVADs, older age, increasing bilirubin, longer ischemic time, and pre ‐OHT dialysis independently predicted post‐transplant mortality. The composite risk score based on these factors may assist in patient selection and prognostication in those supported with contemporary LVADs.

Midterm outcomes of transaortic and transapical TAVI in patients with unsuitable vascular anatomy for femoral access: A propensity score inverse probability weight study
ConclusionsTAo is safe and feasible in case of contraindication to femoral approach demonstrating comparable midterm outcomes to TA, thus representing a central access alternative, to increase the overall safety of high ‐risk TAVI procedures.
