Risk of Myocardial Infarction and Stroke in Newly Diagnosed Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A General Population ‐Based Study
Conclusion: Patients with SLE have an increased risk of cardiovascular events, particularly during the first year after diagnosis. Increased vigilance in monitoring for these potentially fatal outcomes and their modifiable risk factors is recommended in this patient population. This article is protected by copyright. High risk of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis but not of stroke in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener’s)
Conclusion: The present study confirms that GPA patients have a markedly increased risk of venous thromboembolism. We did not observe an increased risk of stroke in our cohort. Thus, our observations demonstrate a differential impact of GPA and/or its treatment on the risk of various vascular events. © 2014 American College of Rheumatology.

The estimated frequency of antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with pregnancy morbidity, stroke, myocardial infarction, and deep vein thrombosis
Conclusion: It is difficult to determine the frequency of a “clinically significant aPL profile” in patients with aPL‐related clinical outcomes due to the lack of robust data. Our best estimates of the incidence of aPL‐associated events should be confirmed with appropriately designed population studies. © 2013 American College of Rheumatology.

Estimated Frequency of Antiphospholipid Antibodies in Patients With Pregnancy Morbidity, Stroke, Myocardial Infarction, and Deep Vein Thrombosis: A Critical Review of the Literature
ConclusionIt is difficult to determine the frequency of a “clinically significant aPL profile” in patients with aPL‐related clinical outcomes due to the lack of robust data. Our best estimates of the incidence of aPL‐associated events should be confirmed with appropriately designed population studies.

Cerebrovascular Events in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
ConclusionCerVEs, the fourth most frequent NP event in SLE, are usually attributable to lupus. In contrast to good physician reported outcomes, patients report a sustained reduction in health‐related quality of life following CerVEs.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Does renin‐angiotensin system blockade protect lupus nephritis patients from atherosclerotic cardiovascular events? A case‐control study
Conclusions: Our data do not support the hypothesis that ACEIs/ARBs may be protective against atherosclerotic CVEs in LN patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Rheumatoid Factors Are Associated with Subclinical and Clinical Atherosclerosis in African American Women: The Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
Conclusion. RA‐related autoantibodies are associated with subclinical and clinical atherosclerosis in AA women from a community based non‐RA cohort indicating autoimmune factors may play a role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Is Rheumatoid Arthritis a Cardiovascular Risk Equivalent to Diabetes?
ConclusionFindings from the present study suggest that while CVD risk in RA is elevated, it is lower in magnitude compared to the CVD risk associated with diabetes. It therefore may not be appropriate to consider RA a diabetes risk‐equivalent with respect to hyperlipidemia management. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

TNF‐α inhibitor use and decreased risk for incident coronary events in rheumatoid arthritis patients
Conclusion: Use of TNF‐α inhibitors is associated with a decreased risk for CAD in RA; the risk decreases further with longterm use. This should be considered when weighing the risks versus benefits of these medications. © 2013 American College of Rheumatology.
