Complementary and alternative medicine in the (symptomatic) treatment of acute tonsillitis in children: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: Clinical studies indicate an improvement of symptoms and a good tolerability of all investigated remedies of complementary, alternative and integrative medicine in the treatment of tonsillitis in childhood. Nevertheless, quality and quantity of the studies were insufficient to make a reliable conclusion regarding effectiveness. Therefore, more clinical trials are urgently needed to achieve a meaningful result.PMID:36868289 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2023.102940

The use of complementary and alternative medicine in children with atopic eczema at a tertiary care centre in Malaysia.
CONCLUSION: CAM use was prevalent among children with AE. Its use was significantly associated with AE severity from a parental perspective. Healthcare providers may need to enquire parents about CAM use for their child during routine clinic appointment. PMID: 32147044 [PubMed - in process]

Complementary and alternative medicine in the treatment of acute bronchitis in children: A systematic review.
CONCLUSION: Study results indicate a favorable effect of investigated CAM approaches. However, only three of 18 studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs), so a reliable statement on effectiveness was not possible and further RCTs are indispensable. PMID: 32147041 [PubMed - in process]

The use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) among Italian children: A cross-sectional survey.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of children using CAM in Novara is high, in line with investigations conducted in Northern European countries. The distribution of pathologies treated with CAM, parental socio-economic status and general scepticism towards vaccination are consistent with the literature. Physicians should keep themselves up-to-date also about evidence-based CAM therapies and, most importantly, should have an open dialogue about CAM with their patients. Development of a whole plant bioassay to test effects of potentized calcium carbonate in pillule formulation.
CONCLUSIONS: Potentized Calcium carbonicum, applied as sucrose pillules, influenced pea shoot growth in the assay investigated. However, due to the small effect size and due to the modulation of the effects by still unknown external factors, further optimization of this bioassay is necessary to be used in pharmaceutical quality control or in investigating the biological or pharmaceutical mode of action of potentized preparations.
