NFATc1 regulates cell proliferation, migration, and invasion of ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells in vitro and in vivo.
Authors: Li L, Duan Z, Yu J, Dang HX Abstract NFATc1 (nuclear factor of activated T‑cells c1) is associated with malignancy in several cancer models. However, the expression and function of NFATc1 in ovarian cancer remain elusive. In the present study, we investigated the role of NFATc1 in human epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) using human ovarian adenocarcinoma SKOV3 cells and patient characteristics. NFATc1 expression was silenced by siRNA in the SKOV3 ovarian cancer cell line and in human ovarian cancer nude mouse xenografts. Real‑time PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemical staining, MTT, flow cytometry, ...

Downregulation of importin-9 protects MCF-7 cells against apoptosis induced by the combination of garlic-derived alliin and paclitaxel.
Authors: Izdebska M, Grzanka D, Gagat M, Hałas-Wiśniewska M, Grzanka A Abstract Numerous studies on the biological mechanism of breast cancer have identified a number of potential therapeutic molecular targets. In this context, one type of potential candidates appears to be agents that target the actin cytoskeleton of cancer cells or regulate actin cytoskeleton dynamics. The aim of the present study was to study the impact of altered actin transport between the cytoplasm and nucleus by the downregulation of importin-9 (IPO9) in breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells exposed to an apoptosis-inducing combination of garl...

siRNA-induced TRAF6 knockdown promotes the apoptosis and inhibits the invasion of human lung cancer SPC-A1 cells.
Authors: He Z, Huang C, Lin G, Ye Y Abstract Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) has been found to be involved in multiple cancers. However, the effect of small interfering RNA (siRNA)‑induced knockdown of TRAF6 on the biological behaviors of cancer cells remains unknown. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of siRNA-induced knockdown of TRAF6 on the biological behaviors of human lung cancer SPC-A1 cells. The expression of TRAF6 was determined in human lung adenocarcinoma A549, non-small cell lung cancer H1650, human airway epithelial Calu-3 and human lung cancer SPC-A1 ...

Paxillin is positively correlated with the clinicopathological factors of colorectal cancer, and knockdown of Paxillin improves sensitivity to cetuximab in colorectal cancer cells.
Authors: Du C, Wang X, Zhang J, Liu X, Zhu J, Liu Y Abstract Paxillin (PXN) encodes a 68-kDa focal adhesion-associated protein and plays an important role in signal transduction, regulation of cell morphology, migration, proliferation and apoptosis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between PXN and clinicopathological factors in colorectal cancer, the role of PXN in cetuximab resistance, and whether knockdown of PXN expression could improve the sensitivity to cetuximab in colorectal cancer cells. In the present study, immunohistochemical staining in 148 colorectal carcinoma and 126 nor...

Dickkopf‑3 (Dkk3) induces apoptosis in cisplatin‑resistant lung adenocarcinoma cells via the Wnt/β‑catenin pathway.
In conclusion, the re‑activation of Dkk3 enhances the chemosensitivity to cisplatin in cisplatin‑resistant lung adenocarcinoma cell lines, which requires additional studies to realize this potential in clinical use. PMID: 25573172 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
