Emergency Medicine Kwa-Zulu Natal Style
aka Postcards from the Edge 010 Each time we feature a ‘postcard from the edge’ from the somewhat infamous New Zealand-trained emergency physician Dr Sandy Inglis he is somewhere new — we last heard from him as a patient in Italy, now he is back in ancestral lands in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Only 2 months have past in this, the wild west of Emergency Medicine, and yet the drama, the excitement, the frustration and the chaos make it feel like we have been here for years. I am employed here as the Head of Department for Emergency Medicine, plucked from the comfort of Australasian Emergency Medicine (EM) to come to this ...

The Journey Of Geriatric Emergency Medicine: Acceleration, Diffusion, And Collaboration As Keys To Continued Growth
As more and more of us live longer and healthier lives, we are becoming part of one of the largest demographic shifts in US history, as some 10,000 Americans now turn 65 every day. Innovations in health and care have helped make that increased longevity possible, and now a new wave of innovations to our health care system and community-based services must emerge to reflect our country’s changing demographic. One of these innovations is already occurring within emergency departments (EDs), which are increasingly becoming our nation’s “front porch” of health care for older adults. One out of every two older adults ma...

Choose Emergency Medicine
One of my favourite tweets from #smaccGOLD was the re-invigoration of the Emergency Medicine mission statement and recruitment flyer (via @4hrEmergencyDoc) …which is a slight reworking of the original Aussie Emergency medicine mission statement used in the 2007 UCEM recruitment campaign (via @wgbrook and @fratdoozle) …the matching scrubs hit a cord but as @jilltomlinson espoused…surgeons even get to wear matching hats as well!! This is what @JoeLex5 thinks of that idea! (I assume the non-compliant soul on the ground is an emergency physician…) The post Choose Emergency Medicine appeared first on LITFL.
