Government must ensure coronavirus sick pay for all workers, says UNISON
The government must take emergency action to guarantee all staff statutory sick pay as soon as they self-isolate because of coronavirus fears, says UNISON today (Monday). General secretary Dave Prentis has written to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Thérèse Coffey asking her to amend the rules so employers have to recognise the time off as sick leave and provide wages for workers from day one. They must also pay them regardless of how much they earn or their type of job contract, he says. It comes amid concerns that zero-hours staff who should be self-isolating will go into work out of fear they will be denie...

One Big Coronavirus Challenge Is How To Stop Touching Your Face
(CNN) — It took a coronavirus outbreak to remind us that we touch our faces way too many times. And cutting down on that will help stop the spread of the virus, health officials say. In 2015, a Sydney university observed medical students on video and recorded how many times they touched their faces. Each of the 26 future doctors under observation touched their faces an average 23 times per hour. Nearly half of those times — 44% — involved contact with their eyes, nose or mouth. Not touching your face is harder than it sounds As we fight the coronavirus outbreak, which has killed 19 people in the US and mo...

Why is the government relying on nudge theory to fight coronavirus? | Tony Yates
It would be good to know the evidence for the UK strategy – which is starkly different to that of other countriesWith an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 coronavirus casesnow present in the UK, the government has eschewed social distancing measures such as closing schools and banning largesporting events. Instead, it has opted for behavioural “nudges”: wash your hands, don’t touch your face, don’t shake hands with others, stay at home if you feel ill, and self-isolate if you have a continuous cough. This approach differs starkly from the quarantine measures taken in China, South Korea, Italy and Iran. But it also marks t...

Mass. Hospitals Have ‘ Drive Through Testing ’ For Coronavirus Patients
WELLESLEY (CBS) – As health experts figure out how to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, they’re getting creative – finding ways for patients to get tested for the virus without ever stepping foot in the hospital. The tents are designed to limit contact between suspected coronavirus patients and other people. At Newton-Wellesley, doctors refer to the testing site as “drive through testing.” Patients who suspect they have coronavirus are aske...
