Respected valued retained: working together to improve retention in anaesthesia
This report finds that up to one million operations may be delayed every year because of a shortage of 1,400 anaesthetists – and concludes that the situation will get worse, as one in four working anaesthetists plans to leave the NHS in the next five years. Royal College of Anaesthetists- Over a 24-hour period from 15 –16 April 2020, the Royal College of Anaesthetists (the  College) conducted a survey to develop a snapshot ‘view from the frontline’ of anaesthesia during Covid-19. Sixteen per cent of all hospital consultants are anaesthetists, making anaesthesia the single largest hospital specialty in the UK. Royal College of Anaesthetists - Commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership as part of the National Clinical Audit Programme, this report analyses the care received by close to 25,000 emergency bowel surgery patients treated in NHS hospitals in England and Wales between December 2017 and November 2018. This study found that athletes with pathologic TWI (except those in aVR, III, V1) were likely to have underlying cardiac pathology (45% of patients). Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was the most common finding (81% of cardiac pathology). These authors recommend that all athletes with pathologic TWI be referred for further cardiac testing. Perioperative medicine: the pathway to better surgical care
