DCH said it does not know if t...

Shortening Hospital Discharges: Technical and Workflow Solutions
This article looks at some technical solutions. Ali Parsa, CEO and founder of Babylon, an AI and digital health platform, says discharge planning doesn’t require “massive amounts of technology” or “rocket science”; just good planning from the beginning of the stay. Indeed, one research study (suggested to me by Dr. Geoffrey Rutledge, Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of HealthTap) achieved a significant time saving through low-tech measures such as checklists. Other respondents, however, reported that their solutions were making a difference in discharges. Weaknesses of Current Technology W...

EHI is Not What it Used to be, but Don ’t Panic
The following is a guest article by Mariann Yeager, CEO at The Sequoia Project. What a difference a day makes.  On October 6, 2022, the healthcare and health IT community woke to a new reality – one in which electronic health information (EHI) included far more than it did the day before.  Why was that so important? Because penalties for information blocking – that is, any practice that interferes with access, exchange, or use of electronic health data – are tied to the definition of EHI. With many more types of health information specifically included as EHI, organizations regulated under the 21st Century Cures Ac...

Healthcare, Meet Southwest
BY KIM BELLARD Customers experiencing long, often inexplicable delays, their experiences turning from hopeful to angry to afraid they’ll never get back home.  Staff overworked and overwhelmed.  IT systems failing at the times they’re most needed.  To most people, that all probably sounds like Southwest Airline’s debacle last week, but, to me, it just sounds like every day in our healthcare system. Southwest had a bad week.  All the airlines were hit by a huge swath of bad weather the weekend before Christmas, but most airlines recovered relatively quickly.  Southwest passengers were not...

The transformation of doctors into “ Dr. Widgets ”
It has finally happened, I have transitioned to viewing myself as a widget, a depersonalized interface between the EMR and the patient. I am the unnamed device that collects the patient data and subsequently transcribes it into prose for billing purposes and maybe the occasional colleague review. There is a bit of curious comfort in Read more… The transformation of doctors into “Dr. Widgets” originally appeared in KevinMD.com. (Source: Kevin, M.D. - Medical Weblog)
