Characteristics of adverse reactions due to subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy applied between 2011-2021: Single center experience
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this analysis elaborated that subcutaneous immunotherapy is a safe and tolerable treatment modality. However, before initiating treatment, the benefits and risks should be evaluated. The risk of systemic reactions is quite low, but fatal anaphylaxis can occur, so physicians need to be aware of the potential risks.PMID:38152006 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239604 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

The role of serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid chitotriosidase activity on diagnosis, disease characteristics and prognosis of sarcoidosis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum chitotriosidase activity can be helpful in the differential diagnosis of sarcoidosis with a similar diagnostic performance with BAL CD4/CD8 ratio. Although serum chitotriosidase activity at diagnosis does not predict progressive disease, it is associated with the need for systemic therapy at diagnosis. Serial chitotriosidase measurements may be useful in monitoring disease progression during follow-up.PMID:38152007 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239605 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

Analysis of post-COVID symptoms and predisposing factors for chronic post-COVID syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Female sex and the presence of specific radiological findings were risk factors for developing CPC. Long-term use of ARBs was associated with a low chronic post-COVID symptom burden. A substantial cluster of multisystemic symptoms was observed in both phases, and this condition highlights the requirement for customized outpatient management that includes long-term follow-up and treatment of COVID-19 patients. Identifying the high-risk patients that will develop persistent symptoms can guide this management.PMID:38152008 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239606 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

Analysis of one-year follow-up results and treatment costs of patients with PTE in a tertiary care center
CONCLUSIONS: In our study, the LMWH, warfarin, and DOAC treatment regimens had similar efficacy, safety, and patient compliance. In terms of cost, LMWH was the costliest while DOAC and warfarin were similar.PMID:38152009 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239607 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

Management of iatrogenic airway bleeding with flexible bronchoscopy: Evidence or experience-based?
Tuberk Toraks. 2023 Dec;71(4):400-407. doi: 10.5578/tt.20239608.ABSTRACTIatrogenic bleeding during bronchoscopy may lead to early termination, insufficient sample collection, decreased diagnostic accuracy, and even death. Unlike rigid bronchoscopy, the management of bleeding during flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy does not allow the use of methods such as cautery, direct pressure, etc. and is usually limited to the application of liquids. The management of endobronchial bleeding usually depends on two main mechanisms: 1) vasoconstriction; 2) enhancing coagulation to form fibrin clots. The data on cold saline, the most wide...

Latest status of non-tuberculous mycobacteria prevalence in T ürkiye and the world: Systematic review
This study aimed to compare the prevalence of NTM in Türkiye and worldwide between 2012 and 2022. This study was designed following the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) procedure. A systematic search was conducted between January 2012 and September 2022 using different electronic databases, including Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Ebsco, Scopus, Türk Medline, and Google Scholar. During the literature review process, titles and abstracts were examined and the full texts of the studies were accessed. In 13 research articles from Türkiye includ...

A patient with widespread skin lesions presenting with massive pleural effusion
Tuberk Toraks. 2023 Dec;71(4):420-427. doi: 10.5578/tt.20239610.ABSTRACTMycosis fungoides is the most commonly seen type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoproliferative disease. While mycosis fungoides is linked to an increased risk of developing secondary malignancies, the occurrence of B-cell-originated disease in association with it is exceedingly rare. A 66-year-old male with persistent papillomatous skin eruption was admitted due to dyspnea. Chest X-ray, positron emission tomography, and chest computed tomography revealed axillary and mediastinal lymph node enlargement and right lower pulmonary lobe infiltration along with ri...

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage following inhaled sevoflurane: A rare complication of inhalational anesthesia
We present a case of DAH in a healthy young adult who experienced this condition following general anesthesia with inhaled sevoflurane during an uncomplicated orthopedic procedure. Notably, there were no other risk factors or known causes that could account for the development of DAH in this patient.PMID:38152013 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239611 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

Interstitial lung disease associated with chronic liver disease
Tuberk Toraks. 2023 Dec;71(4):433-437. doi: 10.5578/tt.20239612.ABSTRACTIt is important to make the differential diagnosis of restrictive changes associated with hepatic hydrothorax or hepatopulmonary syndrome seen in the later stages of chronic liver diseases and restrictive changes associated with interstitial lung disease. Lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia (LIP) is in the rare idiopathic interstitial pneumonia subgroup of interstitial lung diseases. LIP is a rare disease, and its incidence is unknown. LIP is characterized by infiltration of the alveolar interstitium with lymphocytes, plasma cells, and histiocytes. The ...

Is diaphragm ultrasound better than rapid shallow breathing index for predicting weaning in critically ill elderly patients?
CONCLUSION: Ultrasound can be used to show diaphragm dysfunction in the elderly frail population, and a multifactorial approach to the extubation process may include ultrasound instead of using traditional RSBI alone.PMID:37740623 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239701 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

Outcomes of lung transplantation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that prelisting demographic and clinical data of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients had no significant effect on post-operative outcomes, however, intra-operative ECMO use, prolonged extubation, primary graft dysfunction (p< 0.05 for each) and chronic rejection (p> 0.05) were more common in patients who are <60 years of age. These data need to be confirmed by larger studies.PMID:37740625 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239703 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)

A retrospective evaluation of patients with sleep breathing disorders in single center, Edirne province
CONCLUSION: Patients with appropriate symptoms can be diagnosed with a high probability of OSA in our region. The fact that a substantial group of patients diagnosed with OSA and recommended to use the PAP device did not receive the device or the proportion of those who could not use the device was high is one of the notable findings of the study.PMID:37740626 | DOI:10.5578/tt.20239704 (Source: Tuberkuloz ve Toraks)
